*OFFICIAL* 2012-2013 AP European History Thread

Yeah I think so, that’s what I put (if I remember correctly)!

It was there was a line that showed the movements of Britain and France. For morocco, was France came to control the country correct?

It was definitely the Crimean war. And yes Divy, that is right. I almost said that but went with the Britain and France option :/

No you’re right. France did not gain control over Morocco. It worsened German relations with the two countries and France and England came closer together.
[First Moroccan Crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](First Moroccan Crisis - Wikipedia)

France gained control over Morocco after the SECOND Moroccan crisis.

I did FRQs 4 and 6… The first one was decent, but the second one I BSed my way through. It was the one about the factors contributing to the expansion of the welfare state in the mid twentieth century. I talked about the desire to correct the mistakes and devastation after WWI, such as strict austerity measures; economic integration/programs such the Marshall Plan, EEC, and EU; and hopes of keeping the peace (containment, Marshall Plan’s war on poverty…). I felt like I basically repeated myself over and over. I also felt like I went off topic in the economics paragraph so I tried to connect it back to the main idea by saying that economic integration benefited the economies of the countries involved, which then went back into the financing of the welfare state. …Any thoughts on this?

@antiglacier97, If I remember correctly, FRQ 7 was about the rise of RIGHT-WING authoritarian regimes… stalin/lenin is extreme left-wing

@thiruvin: we’ve realized our mistake NOW, but when we were writing we had no idea. I mean seriously, who has it stuck in their heads that lenin/stalin were left wing. They all seem the same to me.

Ok so I wrote about the frq with darwin and newton. I said that darwin discovered the theory of evolution and it led to social darwism and that it led to imperialism based on the belief that some species are dominate over the other (the europeans are dominate over the africans) Then about newton I wrote about how he discovered gravity which proved corpinucus’ theory right about heliocrentrism, but i f****d up and said his development of calculus led to advanced technologies like guns, cars, planes, and medicine. I probably won’t get higher than a 5.

i didn’t finish my dbq, but i had all six of the points that had to be in the dbq. Will I still get a 6 or higher since I didn’t finish it.

I’m expecting a 2 or a 3 on this test tbh
I’m PRAYING for the 3. I had a horrible teacher and should have studied more and earlier.
Expecting 40/80 on MC, 5 on DBQ, 4 on FRQ #4, and a 0 on #7 due to being off-topic.
That’s still a 3 according to AP Pass

@rivingtonrebel, i was simply addressing his question. I should have specified. Will you be penalized? Of course you will. I would say at best you could get is a 4-5/9 (granted you talked about the other major topics accurately). Your teacher must have been really bad to not have specified the differences between communism and fascism. And for that, I feel sorry for you.

so after taking the exam, which study book do you think best prepared you for it? Princeton/Barrons/Crash Course/Smartypants/CliffNotes/5 Steps to a 5 and/or their 500 MC?

Crashcourse
AP Achiever
Modern European History

the onyl 3 you should pick from IMO

@thiruvin: “really bad” is an understatement lol. And yeah I described the Weimar Republic and its fall in 1933 with the rise of Hitler pretty accurately, so hopefully I get that 4-5/9 like you said. It’s better than the 0 I’m preparing myself for :slight_smile:
@ChocoBubble: I used Princeton and MEH 2 weeks before the test. I learned a lot from them and basically had to teach myself 600 years of European History so I didn’t learn EVERYTHING but if I studied earlier I definitely could have mastered the course with those 2 alone.

What did you all get for the question with who controlled Renaissance governments? Dictators or councils of wealthy citizens? I thought that with the Sforza in Milan and the Medici in Florence, it would be dictators. What did you all choose.

@jimjim1717
I chose wealthy citizens, because ruling families like the Medici were influential and wealthy, but not really dictators. Not sure though, the “council” part threw me off.

@ChocoBubble
Definitely CrashCourse and Modern European History. MEH has a TON of detail, but it really helps everything come together and works well for in-class tests. CrashCourse is way more concise but its a great refresher for right before the AP exam. But neither of them have much information about the post-1960 era, although CC has a chapter on the Cold War. I’d say there were about 6 questions on this years exam on post 1960, so you would want to really brush up on that. And also read about Margaret Thatcher!

I chose the “councils of wealthy citizens” answer, but that was a guess. Here’s what Crash Course says:

And according to [Italian Renaissance Art: Historial Background](http://faculty.uml.edu/Culturalstudies/Italian_Renaissance/5.htm):

Yeah, and none of it was listed in Crash Course, except for a brief section about the EEC, which didn’t answer the question about why France didn’t want Britain in the EEC. Thatcher wasn’t even mentioned. Honestly, Crash Course wasn’t as helpful as I thought it would be, and the lesson learned here is that just cramming in Crash Course at the last second isn’t enough to get a five.

We’re allowed 1 misinterpretation correct? Because I said that Document 4 was against religious toleration and as I read it again, I think some graders would put it under the “for religious toleration” category.
However I DID justify my grouping of Document 4 by saying although it seems as though they’re being tolerant, if the Catholic church chapter was truly showing religious tolerance, they’d let Protestants worship whenever they please even if it “hinders” Catholic practice.
So hopefully the graders see it my way.

What’re your thoughts?
http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/ap/apcentral/ap13_frq_euro_history.pdf

I was clueless with that document because it could go both ways and i realized that so i decided not to risk it and skip that one. In hindsight, great decision :D
