Official 2012 June ACT Math Test discussion

It was 1:1

@calli: definitely! I got -4 in April for a 34. Math curve is not like, say, science or reading. Those are brutal

Twas 1:1…and callikid, you can definitely get a 30 with 6 wrong. I’d bet this curve is gonne be like -2=36 lmao

@Siddy15 I think I got 1:2 as well. x, 2x, 4x. For every number of “1” for x, there are “2” for 2x.

ex. x= 1, 1(1) = 1; 1(2)= 2.
x = 2, 1(2) = 2; 2(2) = 4.

I might be remembering the question wrong, though.

yep I got -8 and 32 for an ACT last year. Amazing curve. On this i didn’t think i missed anything.

1:1, 240pi, x<=0, 8 times sqrt 3 for the rhombus, x decreases for the g(x) function, any others?

@WJSisis

you mean 1:1 right?

it was 1:1

Anyone get g(2005)=2g(1998)+100

I don’t remember the actual x values but it was something like that.

@Siddy15 No, I think I got 1:2, I guess I’m just not getting it. Someone care to explain?

This ACT was kind of at a bad time for me. It was my 4th exam this week on little sleep >.>. I’m planning on retaking it again in September, anyways.

@WJSIDIS

Circle A has a diameter of x. Circle B has a diameter of 2x. What is the ratio of Circle B’s radius to Circle A’s diameter?

Circle B’s radius is 2x / 2 = x. Circle A’s diameter is x.

Thus the ratio is x:x or 1:1

yep. g(2005) was 100 more than twice g(1998)

@cc: yeah! That was a wordy one

Omg I forgot to divide 100pi by 2 for the very last question…it was a semicircle!!! This sucks…everything else I think I got right…I really hope -1 is 36.

@siddy15 I know this may seem stupid, but I still don’t get it. Why did you divide 2x by 2? So you’re saying the ratio of circle A and C is also 1:1? I’m just saying, if you plug in real numbers for x you don’t come out with a 1:1 ratio.

I put -2/5 and 20(?) for a and b, because the question stated that there was a decrease of 2 dogs for every $5 increase.

@ WJSIDIs

If the diameter of a circle is 2x, the radius has to be x.

Note that the question asked you the ratio of the RADIUS of the second to the DIAMETER of the first

@hkim0713 what was the very last question ?

Definitely 1:1 ratio for the circle questions
And it’s a=-2/5 and b=20

@siddy15 **** me, did I get the wording of the question wrong or something? I thought it said that the radius of circle A was x, B is 2x, and C is 4x. I thought they were all in terms of radii.

Edit: I hate it when you miss one small detail and you get completely screwed on a simple question.

@joe: It said how from point A to B the length was 100, and you used that value to find the diameters of the 4 semicircles and had to find the circumference of the 4 circles.

No, it said the DIAMETER of circle A was x, B is 2x, and C is 4x. The question asked for the RADIUS of the second to the DIAMETER of the first. Redo the problem, I’m sure you’ll get it right.
