Official 2012 June ACT Math Test discussion

yeah i think it was diameters

it was what the the ration of the RADIUS of circle B to the DIAMETER of circle A

2x / 2 = x <= circle B’s radius
x = x <= circle A’s diameter
x/x = 1 <= ratio

ration : 1:1

The magnet question.

It wanted something that was double 144, didn’t it?

@siddy15 Ya, thanks, I get it now. My logic was sound, I just read the question wrong. Oh well, at least I got the semi-circles question right :p.

Magnet question is 6 root 2

i think i put 100pi also because i looked at it wrong! Is the math ever -1 ==> 36?

Yeah I wanna know if -1 = 36…I never took the ACT before and I’d like to know

@CSIHSIS

the force was unknown, and the magnet was 12.
The force is inversely proportional with the magnet squared, which means they multiply to the same number. The question asked you if the force doubled, what the magnet would be.

Let’s say the force was 2 to begin with. Then since they multiply to the same, 12 squared times 2 = 288.

So when force doubles (becomes 4), then what is the magnet?

Now we must know that 4 times magnet squared = 288.
So magnet squared = 72
magnet = sqrt 72
= 6 sqrt 2

Sorry if this is confusing

what should -2 be around?

This was a more difficult math section, I’d say -1 is still a 36

I feel like this was the easiest math section I’ve ever had (AKA, compared to the 5 tests in the red book). In those tests the last 5 questions are killer, but these were good.

what was the one where it gave you sin x and it asked you what is cos x * tan x?

@siddy
it was like 2/5 or some fraction similar to that

The question about the minimum amount of money he had to put in the bank was funny. I just typed in my calculator “100+12+13+14 etc etc” until I got to like +2something xD

alright, thanks. out of all of these questions posted here i’m like 12/12. Don’t think I missed any at all on this one. If anybody took June 2011, that math section was rediculously hard.

@CSIHSIS
don’t remember the number but the answer was ‘A’ to that question

The answer was A/F 12 yea.

@calllikid yes

Can we confirm the rocket question? Was it 1s or 2s?

What was the rocket question? Was it the =16x^2+48x-32 or whatever thing? I put 1. If you graphed it the x intercepts were 1 away from each other.

the answer is 1

it asked when it was 32 as it was going up
it would’ve been 2 if it had asked while it was going down.
