Official 2012 June ACT Math Test discussion

for the 240pi cone and the area of the rhombus (8rad3), does anybody remember which answer choice either of those were?

The magnet one said the square is inversely proportional. That means you do 12^2 then divide by 2 so the objects have twice the force. Then you take sq rt of that which is 6*sqrt2

i think 240pi was d and 8rad3 was either a or b

I dont GIVE a Shiz, I did the same thing

@IdontGiveaSHIZ I think you’re wrong. If y is inversely proportional to x, then that means y=1/x

Was the taxi one really from the origin? ****. There goes my 36, I guess square root of 55 was wrong. Damnit.

The only one I think I missed was the magnet with the nail one. I put 3, but I think Future wolverine is right. I am hoping for a 36, got a 33 last time.

im pretty sure the magnetic force one was 3, because once you squared 1.73 it was 3

and it was inversely to the square root of the distance…

It definitely was inversely proportional to the square of the distance.

@ FutureWolverine7 , yeah the answer was the distance from the taxi Headquarters to the taxi. I put 10.

For the magnet one, because you are doubling the force and the square is inversely proportional, you would have 1/2^2. therefore, the distance for when the force is doubled will be 1/4th of the original force, 12. The answer was 3.

so was the magnetic answer 3 then?

Anyone have an idea of what the math curve might be?

Hoping -1 is 36

Ok, what was the answer you were trying to find for the nail one? The distance needed to double the force with an original distance of 12?

the taxi one was 8. It said that the taxi was 7 miles east and 3 miles south giving a coordinate at (7, -3) They then gave you unnecessary info about the route to get to the headquarters. you had to do the distance from origin to 7, -3 which is 7.61577 and you round to 8 because it said closest

@ValkyrieXT I think it will be very favorable. On the June test, I think that there is a larger amount of uhh… low scorers. Which would make the curve a bit more favorable. I am expecting -1 = 36 ; -2 = 35.

What was the one where the number of pets decreases as price increases and it was written by the equation ax+b. it was question 35, it was the only question i guessed on, i put B as my guess, don’t remember what that was though

@hotelrwanda it asked for the distance to the HQ, so the information was necessary.

@mets I got A, I just plugged the answers back into the equation.
