Just here to mention my S1 did not receive any mailing at all after his Explore (no postcards, gifts, nada) and… yay!!! He got the Trustee. So for those who may not be receiving little notes in the mail, do not be alarmed. And best of luck

MadBean: Did you receive notification after interviews that your S is receiving the Trustee?

S2 received the magnet and note today. Honestly he thought at first it was notification of the Trustee Scholarship. It was a nice gesture from Marshall, but left him wondering if there was an underlying meaning ( like most of us seem to do on CC). Waiting, waiting waiting… This month has been nearly excruciating. All becomes clear within the next 2 weeks. Good luck everyone!

HoustonDad: I believe Madbean’s S1 is a senior this year, and madbean is sharing what happened the year he received the scholarship. Madbean: did the same thing happen with S2?

Yep, S1 was a Trustee candidate for SCA in 2008. Thanks for helping me clarify, maddenmd. I meant to say that he did not get a personal note or gift by mail from his interviewers right after the Explore weekend. But in TIME (I think he received the small envelope notice that he had been awarded the Trustee Scholarship the week of March 23), he did hear good news.

S2 was in last year’s cycle, but was not in contention for a T/P scholarship, maddenmd. He did get a letter from his School (also SCA) congratulating him on receiving a departmental scholarship. I think that may have arrived in early April, but after going through a dozen applications with 2 kids in 3 years, my brain is on the fritz.

There are a lot of emotions at play these last two weeks and I truly send a lot of calming vibes out to all of you in this year’s pool.

We too are on pins and needles about whether our son will get the trustee scholarship for which he interviewed. But there are some things I keep thinking about. If he had never been invited to the interview, but then received admission in late March to the film and television production major in SCA, we would have been over the moon overjoyed that he was admitted to his first choice program. Now that we know he is in, and are waiting on the scholarship decision, I have to keep reminding myself to remember that joy at the admission itself. Of course affordability and comparing other offers has to go into the decision about where to attend… but we are still thrilled about him getting admission to this very competitive and fabulous school-whatever happens with the scholarship. It is sometimes hard to remember that part when the scholarship would mean so much.

I have a friend at USC who was one of the student interviewers for Dornsife. I’m not sure if the same applied to the other schools, but he told me that part of their interview “protocol” of sorts was to handwrite a postcard and mail it to all the people who interviewed.

So more likely than not, it’s just a gesture of thanks from USC and has little to no underlying meaning.

I interviewed at the first Explore this month, and I definitely have my fingers crossed for a Trustee scholarship! I can’t go to college at all unless I get my tuition covered by something like that and my housing covered by additional grants, but I’d love to be at USC. Everyone is so friendly! I live in Oregon – all the clouds and rain do nothing for my academic motivation, so I’m looking forward to the sun. There’s also a professor in Viterbi there who works specifically with prosthetics, which is the field I want to go into, so I think I’ll probably cry if I don’t get aid D:

I got the note also, but assumed it was just a pleasant part of their interviewing process.

I stayed in Marks and was not terribly impressed, but from what I understand that’s one of the worst dorms (hoping for Birnkrant!). It was conveniently located right in front of Ground Zero, though, which has fantastic milkshakes (and bagels, but pretty much nothing else). My host was nice, and her friends were all down-to-earth, which was good to see since a lot of the other students seemed to be really… excitable? They were all fun to be around, it was just nice to see the variety. There was nobody in the shower at eight in the morning! That was reassuring, I half expected to have to wait in line.
The interview went fine, I thought. I talked a little fast and my shoes were slipping off as I was trying to walk haha but the student interviewer was extremely kind and the admissions officer seemed genuinely interested in listening to me (the chem professor I interviewed with was impossible to read). They did ask one current events question, and I stumbled over some answer about Whitney Houston’s death and under-coverage of the genocide in Syria… but it was a really great program! Well organized, for sure.

do we really have to wait till april 1st for notification…in the past have they come earlier? ahh this scholarship will make or break my chance to be at USC so i’m dying to know :(

teaberry,
Don’t know what this year will bring, but last year the Trustee/Presidential Scholarship decision letters were postmarked March 25, 2011.

Anyone have any idea if award letters went out yet?

Teaberry,

Just be thankful you got accepted! If you really want to go to USC it will all work out. 2 years ago, I was eating my heart out because S1 missed the NMF cutoff by one point, but S1 ended up getting more in grants and scholarships than the Presidential was worth anyway. This time around, I was thrilled that S2 is a NMF, but it doesn’t do any good if he doesn’t get in. Fingers crossed and I hope you pick USC regardless of the scholarship.

Fight on!

Legacymom, thank you for the comforting words! I am indeed very grateful for being invited to the Trojan family. I feel your son’s pain- I too missed the NMF cutoff by ONE point but I have a feeling it will work out for me in the end. I fell in love with USC at Explore Fingers crossed for you and your son too. FIGHT ON!

I got demoted to Presidential Scholar Oh well.
