Your work at your university is very impressive, i think you definitely have a chance.

So I should take both SAT and TOEFL, but I am pretty sure I won’t score high on the SAT English part, how does the admission look at my SAT English score. Do they weight my TOEFL score more than my SAT English score? And what about the SAT II? Should I take that as well?

I will be going for Stanford as a california community college student majoring in mechanical engineering. Stanford has several research programs that would directly benefit me in my career path.

I have a 4.0 in all of the courses that Assist recommends for a UC transfer in my major to a school like UCLA). Hopefully Stanford feels that course roster is sufficient.

I also have an internship under my belt and another one that I am doIng now. As well as a somewhat different life story.

I’m at Tufts University right now and have a 4.0 (Dean’s list) after the first semester, 2220 SAT score, and a 3.8 weighted high school GPA.

Courses:
Introduction to Computer Science
Non-Fiction Writing
Logic
Astronomy

EC:
Rugby for a bit
10 hour weeks at Advancement Communications department
Wrote multiple programs, one of which they use for survey results (free-response)
May be getting 40% ownership of on-campus web company and running it
Own and run on-campus web campus company for getting musicians together.

What are my odds, I’ve heard that they don’t like non-CC kids transferring in, because they see it as trading up. I want to computer science, and Stanford is the place to be for it, so I’m wondering what my chances are to make it there for Fall of 2012.

Hey guys! I’m applying for the fall 2012 as well! Gosh, it’s such a stressful factor to know that the transfer rate admission is so low… I wish you guys all the best in your transfer application.

I’m a freshman at a CC in Southern California planning to transfer into the sophomore class. What about you guys?

Hi,
i am an indian student,i am currently in class 12 and will be appearing for the boards exams this march.I was unfortunate to realize my aim just 3 months back and hence i am striving hard for it.
i want to pursue a bachelor course in mechanical engineering, here at stanford.

fortunately i am involved in tons of extracurricular activities and have also been the vice head boy of my school last year.my academic record isnt that great. apart from my class 10 th boards i dont have a good score in past 3 years. my hopes are high for these board exams. i scored a mediocre 70% in my preboards. i dont expect to get in these universities as a freshman hence i am planning to apply through a transfer and i wanted the details about the same.
please tell me about the exams, academic requirements, and any thing else that may be essential for transfer.
i am desperate to get admission and i am ready to do anything for it.

Just submitted my application a few minutes ago. A little nervous that the common app insists that today is 3/16 even though it’s 3/15, but I seem to remember it not mattering last year. Now we cross our fingers until decisions come out.

I wanted to apply, but when I visited there they told me that it’d be too late to take my SATs and be considered. At least they were honest! I am kind of bummed I didn’t take them earlier and apply though, as I have been rejected from my other top choice. I’m from a CC as well in CA. Good luck to all!

In on this. California HS student here…
I’ll give an overview of my situation and I hope you guys can give me your verdict on what my chances are.
I am first generation student and currently a senior.
My parents didn’t even graduate from Elementary school. We are here legally in the United States (just saying)…I’ve always been a smart kid but I made poor choices in high school. I hung out with the wrong people my first 2 years of high school and I paid for it with my academic record. I have a 2.3 gpa. So I’ve planned to attend my local Community College where I can start fresh. I’ll go into CC with 13 units (assuming I pass my AP tests).
My question to you is…do I have a shot at Stanford? Assuming I do fairly well (3.7+ Gpa), have high SAT scores, strong essays, and a good amount of extracurriculars.
Btw I’m interested in Mechanical Engineering.
Please respond.

You should try to aim for a 4.0 at a CC. Like you said, a 3.7 is only “fairly well.” If you know you can get a 4.0 while also keeping your soul in tact, aim for it.

Thanks for acknowledging my post man.
I’ll do my best to get a 4.0. It is possible but will be hard work. I’ll be taking Calc II, Physics I, Linear Algebra, and a GE class this Fall.
All of my semesters will be pretty loaded. I’m not taking any classes this summer because I will be participating in an internship at UC Santa Cruz.

Roy, sounds like you have your semesters all lined up? If not, linear, multivariable, and mechanics are very tough classes, and you may want to take them without other classes. I haven’t forgotten about your PM by the way.

Yeah, I do have my semesters all planned out. I’m not really afraid of the calculus classes. I’m afraid of the physics because I’ve never taken any physics before.
I do remember the PM I sent you DivZero. I was really surprised you averaged a 4.0 with all those difficult classes so I was like, woah this guy knows his stuff! Reply whenever you can man.

I’m only interested in Cal Poly Slo and Stanford. Both of the schools being selective but obviously my best bet is the state school so i suppose I can label Stanford my dream school. I should plan on applying to other colleges though! Just in case…

Only a bit over a week left until decisions come out! Looks like this year’s applicant pool is even bigger than last years’, yet the acceptance numbers are staying the same. Keeping my fingers crossed!
