***Official 2012 UC Berkeley Appeals Thread***

I have been on this site waiting for one to start so I decided to just make one myself :)
So, for all you that has appealed lets keep in contact and post any information you have received. I sent my appeal on Friday, April 6th and I received notification that they got it on Wednesday, April 11th. It reads:

Your appeal for admission has been received and is under review. Please check this site regularly for a reply. We will do our best to post a decision by Tuesday, May 01, 2012.

Best of luck to everyone! Please post!

By the way, with my appeal letter I included my english teacher’s, counselor’s, and theater director’s letter of recommendation (I applied for a theater major), along with my official transcript.

Hi! I sent mine in on Friday.

Waitlisted applicant from Texas, 2200 SAT, and in all honesty I have no idea what my UC gpa is. It’s definitely not stellar and most likely the reason why I got waitlisted.

I spoke about the medical problems I elected not to mention in my application, backed up by letters from the doctors detailing what had happened and documentation of hospital visits. I also mentioned some other things that had impacted me but my main focus was on the health problems.

I really hope I get in! If I don’t I have to stay in Texas :’(

Oh and I applied for Psych.

Appealing for EECS but also requested that they consider me for CS in L&S.
Submitted the appeal last Friday the 13th (also the deadline). MyBerkeleyApplication has not updated yet.

Good luck everyone.

Hello! I appealed with two letters of recommendation from my English teachers, my seventh semester grades, and my portfolio. I sent all materials in the mail on April 12th. No new information on MyBerkeleyApplication as of yet.

I sent mines in on the day it was due, which I believe was the 13th. I didn’t receive any confirmation that they received it yet though. Do you they send you an email to confirm or do I have to check myberkeleyapplication? I included 3 letters of rec in mines.

I appealed to both UCLA and UC Berkeley with my portfolio, my english, chemistry, and math teachers’ letters of recommendation and a counsellor proof of “truth” to the things I listed in my appeal letter. I sent mine in on April 10, 2012 and still haven’t heard back from UC Berkeley. I hope it reaches its destination cause I sent it via regular mail. I don’t have the money to pay for express mail :(

yes, you check my berkeley app and it’s above the rejection letter. They don’t send you an email when they update it… so keep checking :)

What did you guys put in your portfolios? I’m nervous, I didn’t include a portfolio :/

Hey,

I got rejected too and decided to make an appeal. I submitted mine like a few weeks ago and it says on the website that my appeal is under review. Just to cut the nerve wrecking waiting all over again, can you guys please tell me my chances of getting in? Here’s what I got in my letter:

I misplaced my senior class on Ceramics on a college prep elective class instead of fine arts so according to the UC application I’m missing a credit in the section. I told them my mistake

I explained how hard it is to survive high school in the states since we just moved in here on my junior year. I wrote about the language barrier and stuff and how I still can score above average on my SAT/ACT reading/writing/english section, scored 600ish on my SAT and 28 on my ACT (it’s not as good as you guys first language speakers), and also I can perfect my most recent SAT math (making most of what I got) and I sent them the transcript from college board.

Last, BEAR with me please :), I told them that I want to go to Berkeley so bad, it’s my first choice school and so on, and also how will an education at Berkeley will help me with success in life and most of all to be able to contribute to society.

So, do you guys think my appeal is strong? Better kill my hopes now than to watch it grow and have it die once my appeal decision comes in LOL

I have a question, did you send your appeal letter via regular mail or express? I sent mine in last tuesday April 12, and still haven’t heard back. its april 17 now. I remember that the post office person told me that it takes up to four days to reach its destination. its almost six now

Sent mine in on the 10th and the application portal still hasn’t updated. I know for sure that it arrived on the 13th because I tracked my mail, so I’m assuming we need to give Cal leeway time to process it as well, especially since they’re probably swamped from mail that came in this last week.

Also, I saw that some people got in via waitlist already, which for some reason bodes the fact that maybe the are falling short of their precedented yield (of course nothing is set in stone until May, but maybe their SIRs aren’t coming as fast or as much as they have had in previous years?!?) hopefully this means well for appeals then :(

Hi guys!
I sent my appeal on last Friday (4/13), and my application portal was updated when I checked it today :))))
I included a letter of appeal & a recommendation letter from my research adviser (keeping it simple!). I heard that about 3% of people who appeal get accepted, but let’s all keep our fingers crossed !

I sent mine on the 12th of April still no update. All I see in my rejection letter on myapplication. Now I’m worried that they didn’t get it D:

Same here. Sent mines on the 13th, but myberkeley application hasn’t changed yet.

I am pretty sure that the office is only open Monday and Wednesday. So most likely your status will show up some time today.

Hi guys! I sent mine in on the 13th also and they received it on Monday. I hope my status updates soon.

@veryfat I sent mine using regular mail with the forever stamp on it
