***Official 2012 UC Berkeley Appeals Thread***

Whew! they got mine too. can finally focus back on school now :)

I sent my appeal last Thursday from PA and myberkeley account says its under review.
Yesterday I got some new information that would really help increase my chances (I’m a Gates Millennium Scholar). I want to let them know this but every time I call I’m put on hold for at least 20+ minutes. Anyone know a person I can directly contact that is a part of the admissions staff?

I submitted my appeal on April 12th. MyBerkeley account still hasn’t been updated. Should I be worried?

I’m in the same boat, deepster95. April 12th was when I sent mine, too.

@Chyheim - WOW! That’s great! Congrats! My guess would be to email them.

Thanks. :slight_smile: Do you know an email I could use? Only one I know of is the berkeleyinfo@berkeley and I feel like that’s no good.

I sent in my appeal to Berkeley on time. However, I just checked my application (back on the UC site) for the heck of it and saw that under languages it said that I only spoke French (French is my first language, but I certainly am fluent in English as well!). Is there anyway I can notify LA of this error?
Also, I wasn’t able to include a letter of recommendation in the packet because my recommender wanted me to waive my rights of reading it, so it was sent separately. Will they accept this?
I also wanted my counselor to include updated grades with an evaluation of me as a student (i.e. has always taken the most challenging classes offered, top 5%, etc.), but he was out of town. Could I still send it?
Thanks guys. I just found out about the language error, and I’m a bit anxious.

Perhaps your best bet is to call the Admissions department regarding the language error. It sounds like something you’d want to fix immediately over the phone. I’m not sure if they will accept your letter of recommendation. On their website, it was clearly stated to send all materials in one envelope. This includes letters of recommendation. You should have asked your recommender to give you the letter in a sealed envelope, thereby waiving your rights to see it, and sent it along with your other materials in the same package. I highly doubt they will accept your counselor’s evaluation considering it is past the deadline.

They still haven’t received mine. Should I email them?

Have they updated yours, scarlet8?

Has anyone heard back from them?

we’ll all find out by the end of next tuesday. :)

Has anyone committed anywhere else just to be sure?

@deepster95

Yes, they updated mine.

@Chyheim, I already committed to Wellesley College. I already declined UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCSD and UCLA. Cal is the only place I didn’t get in… And my first choice. Admissions is such a crap shoot. Good thing I left something significant out of my app or I wouldn’t be appealing. I hope everyone else is committing somewhere else, if lucky enough to be admitted anywhere. Be thankful if you have somewhere to go.

so i tried calling cal today about an error on my application and once again they told me to call back during office hours (though i’m pretty sure office hours are monday and wednesday 1-4 pst) so idk. is berkeley trolling me right now because i’ve called so often but have always got the automated “call back during office hours”

has anyone gotten through?

I’m going to commit to UCSD. Cal is my first choice also. I’m thankful for getting into other schools, but I still wish to attend Cal. I don’t think anything could change that.

@eagersails Yeah I’ve spent at least two hours on hold waiting for a representative to pick up. I know a student who’s going to try to get me a direct email, but I think there’s not much we can do now. May 1st is right around the corner.

I’m committing to USC, although I am on UCLA’s waiting-list so if I hear a yes from them I’ll go there. The only school I didn’t get accepted to was Berkeley also :(

@eagersails
I was on hold for 20 minutes but then they picked up and I asked them more about the appeal process and she said she didn’t know, only the admissions directors do.

@Veryfat
How do you know we’ll know by next tuesday?

Well on my appeal note, it said that I will hear back from them by May 1st the latest, same as all others who appealed. check myberkeleyapplication

also, I’m commited to McGill if I don’t get in. I really love McGill but Berkeley has always been my top choice, after Yale of course which I got rejected from. Seems that legacy didn’t help much in my case.

If I don’t get in, I plan on staying at McGill for two years and then trying for Yale once again

Thanks for the response.

I actually talked to someone at Ucb about appeals… she said they should get back after 5-7 days from last Monday (after post date of 4/13).

So far seems like nothing has come up yet since no one has posted about results…which makes sense especially since they probably have a number of students appealing. My guess is to start checking between now and next Tuesday (since it did say they’ll reply back by May 1st).
