**OFFICIAL** 2013-2014 AP Biology Thread

I don’t know how to feel.

Bomb threat at my school and we had to evacuate. lel.

I took two practice tests released by the College Board for the updated exam and got 4s on them. I felt that the exam today was a lot harder though. Multiple choice was tough and the FRQs were okay. I just want a 3 at this point! [-O<

i never took the practice tests considering i never had anytime since I was just reviewing like crazy. i could say the MC was medium-hard. I either got a decent amount right or a large percentage wrong. Grid ins were ok although my friend is challenging me on one of them. I completely got wrecked on an FRQ since my teacher never went over it.

Oh god…if I thought this exam was a bit on the easier side (except some of the frqs) won’t the curve be bad? Knowing collegeboard, this year’s curve is probably higher than the 78 raw from last year.

i really hope the curve doesn’t go up, the frqs seriously killed me. It really sucks because on practice ap exams at school I got 5’s but the first frq seriously came out of nowhere o_o

:(( I messed up SO bad on chi square!!! I’m in AP Statistics (aced THAT exam btw), so I really do know my stuff! I want to cry… It was the weirdest thing! I calculated the correct answer, but I bubbled in a different value! Maybe it was my nerves from time pressure??? I didn’t even realize it until time was called! I’m such an unlucky idiot! :frowning: The MC started out easy but got MUCH harder along the way. The grid-in was somewhat easy, and the FRQ… I didn’t finish one part, and I rushed through three other parts. Idk. I just want to pass!
Tbh though, college board’s extreme time constraint for AP Biology is ridiculous. I could only skim read everything. It felt more difficult than the practice tests. I honestly feel that if I took Biology in a college setting where I wasn’t pressured to think critically in seconds (literally), I would excel in Biology.

If many probably did bad on it, would that mean the curve is bigger?

@TotallyTrudy I’m glad I’m not the only one! The real deal was DEFINITELY more difficult than the practice exams.

@DaneBrick Haha that guy who deleted everything…anonymous cheetah or something. So bad lol.

I got a 5 on the practice ap from last year but i’m not so sure how i did today…im just hoping for a 4…

@Shelly1only‌
I don’t think the curve is based off of how people did…probably based off how difficult CB thought the test was…

I seriously hope that isn’t true. I’m probably expected a 2-3.

hey guys, is it true they only grade 58 out of the 69 total questions on part 1. isn’t that what they did in the 2013 exam?

@Remembrance‌
Where did you hear that kind of information? I don’t believe CB did that (highly unlikely…)…
Perhaps you could be right though. Hopefully you are :D

@HamCourt There’s an entire 6 page write up by the college board about last years exam and the grading. Only 58 were scored. Also, in this years exam, some people in my class had questions that other people didn’t have. All the others they had in common, most likely

That was a welcome respite from AP chemistry.

Much easier than I thought it would be. Though if you haven’t gotten used to the new format, then I’d understand if you felt pressured by time.

If it makes you guys feel better, I didn’t even see the two final FRQ’s because I didn’t know there was more to the exam after the pinprick/nervous system question…there goes the 5. Ugh.

guys it makes sense that they only grade 58 of the 69 MC. the raw score is out of 99 so 58 + 49 for FRQ (10x2,4x3,3x3) is 99. So that means that 52 of the actual MC is graded because the grid-ins have to be graded. So College Board most likely uses the 11 questions like the experimental SAT section to test questions since it is a new test and they need data and stuff. But the question is what questions do they not count lol.

so if one gets all of those “not counted questions” wrong, that person could get a perfect M.C. LOL
