yup tuesday -__-

Sigh…after all that waiting the answer was a no…wuda been btr to know on the 19th rather than 26th…I feel kinda stupid now lol

4/26

Decision: Not Admitted

UC GPA: 3.01
Major Pre-reqs Completed: All except for physics
Intended Major: Biology
TAG?: No.
IGETC?: Yes.

Not surprised, GPA just isn’t up to par. I’m happy with SC though. I would have had a real hard time deciding between SC and SB, I enjoyed my visit to SC that much.

THE WAIT IS OVER

Decision: Accepted

Objective:

UC GPA: ~3.2

Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Strong upward trend, almost all pre-reqs, IGETC finished, essay
Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): We’ll see

Reflection

Strengths: Almost finished pre-reqs, upward trend grades
Weaknesses: Gpa’s pretty low
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Unimpacted major, pre-reqs, luck

General Comments: I’m so freaking happy I got in after waiting an entire month to find out. I know I was borderline with the gpa but turns out I lucked out. Can’t wait to hear from cal and ucla

@shmohawk congrats!

I really want to go to UCSB, but I’ve already been rejected by Davis and UCLA. My GPA is low (3.1) and I’m a UC to UC transfer.

Does UCSB send out rejections/acceptances over the weekend?

@Elliott… A lot of people didn’t even receive a rejection last year. They didn’t receive anything.

@mermaker

That’s…really disheartening.
But thank you for the honest info!

Do you think I maybe have a shot? I’m applying for the physiology major (pre bio). I interned for 10-15 hours a week last semester teaching at a local high school and I have a national award for scholastic journalism. Among other probably useless things… I feel hopeless, honestly. My GPA dropped so much last semester.

These are the stats for admitted psychology majors in 2011 (last time the stats were available):

http://bap.ucsb.edu/IR/PDB/files/profiles/Letters_and_Science/MLPS/1112_Psychological%20Brain%20Sciences.pdf

With a 3.1, that places you in the lower 25% based on GPA…

Physiology is different from psychology, though. It’s like biology at a macroscopic level, but with focus on metabolic pathways as well as whole systems (circulatory, organ systems, etc) blah blah.

Anywho, thanks a lot! I will try not to get my hopes up for UCSB. Maybe Santa Cruz will give me a chance. :)

oh, man hahahha. I totally read that as psychology. I’m sorry but they don’t have any stats for physiology. :(

No worries at all! I really appreciate the stats anyway! Did you see those undergrad campus GPAs? Not even 3.0, that’s crazy! But, hey, that’s the average. Really cool link :)

ACCEPTED!
gpa: 3.17
major: psychology
tag: didnt qualify

@kayvuvu Heck yes!! I’m so happy for people whose GPAs are similar to mine haha. Congrats! Do you plan to attend UCSB or are you waiting for other schools?

Does anyone know if biological anthropology is a competitive/impacted major at UCSB?

^ mermaker does

@flow. Nope. You should be good with a 3.5(always aim higher of course) at UCSB and UCSD (only UC’s that offer the Bio emphasis)

Source: I’m a Bio Anthro major admitted to UCSC, UCD, UCSD and UCSB with a 3.54.

That’s odd because a friend of mine with a 3.3 got rejected and I’m pretty sure they’re going to have the pre reqs and IGETC done by spring 2013 if they’re not done already… :/

Did he finish the last transferable math and English by Fall 2012?

@ElliotJones thanks! I was soo surprised! I think I might go to Irvine though. I’m not sure yet haha did you get in??

Objective:

UC GPA: 3.25

Reflection

Strengths: extra curricular I guess? not sure and I finished all of the pre reqs I guess
Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: probably because I had completed all the pre reqs. I’m honestly still shocked I’ve been accepted. So far 3 for 3! Now just waiting for UCSD, but I think that’s a long shot for me. Good luck to everyone !
