**OFFICIAL 2013 Fall UCSB Transfer Decisions Thread**

<p>You just got accepted today? Was it an appeal acceptance?</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Decision Date & Time: (July 29, 2013 @ 9am by phone)</p>

<p>Objective:
UC GPA: 3.19 | Trend GPA 3.91
Major Pre-reqs Completed: Calc series missing.
Intended Major: Economics and Accounting. Had to take alternate major.
TAP?: Was in the program, but never became TAP Certified. CC made horrible mistake and did not turn in my last two honors contracts on time. Still completed the honors work in those last two classes and was not allowed to use them on transcript or to sign off on TAP Cert. Also, had additional honors coursework outside of my TAP contract from another CC.<br>
TAG?: No. I TAGed UCSD and got denied there.
IGETC?: Completed</p>

<p>Subjective:
Extracurriculars: None that were especially relevant.
Job/Work Experience: Extensive. Started own company at young age, 15 years business experience, 60 hours a week while going back to school.
Volunteer/Community service: Work with foster youths and help out annually at church events/festivals.
Personal Statement: Hard to tell because of obvious subjective bias, but there are things that happened after my app that lead me to believe my personal statement and appeal letter were pretty good. Discussed my passions, my experience of “making it” at a young age, losing everything, and then building myself back up.</p>

<p>Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
State (if domestic applicant): California
Country (if international applicant): United States of America
School Type: CC
Ethnicity: Greek
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Mid
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Skipped generation, personal statement, GPA trend, took advantage of resources available, persistent.
Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Went up to visit campus already, but just to personally walk the campus. Went crazy at the bookstore. I’ve got enough UCSB sweats to fill a whole drawer.
Reflection
Strengths: Strong Personal Statement. Work Experience. GPA trend.
Weaknesses: Low overall GPA. High units.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: UCSB admissions took a holistic look at my application and gave me a chance based on the student I am, not the student I was.
General Comments:
I count myself lucky, but my advice to other students who happen across this thread is to be resilient. </p>

<p>Feel free to message me or ask me anything.</p>

<p>@UCwolv- Can I ask why your TAG at UCSD was denied. I’m thinking of tagging UCSD. I don’t want to waste my TAG if I’ll get denied anyway? Did you meet all the requirements?</p>

<p>It looks like he didn’t meet the UCSD GPA requirement of 3.5.</p>

<p>Yes at mermaker. I was under the impression that those weren’t “hard guidelines”. I was hoping they would take into account my recent grade trend instead of my old grades since it was basically impossible for me to ever reach 3.5 with a blended GPA.</p>
