****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

And guess what. I have 2 ap’s between now and friday…

Both my deposited college and Harvard wouldn’t give much credit though, so it’s really just a pain I must endure. Please, Harvard, be the reward at the end of the rainbow…

well, Reptil i called the admssions office and asked if they have started deliberations yet & he said NO, that will start friday. So, some waitlistees could find out by May 8th if they are “on the top of the pile” but most likely the bulk of decisions will start around may 15-25. So officially from the admissions office they are not already reading applications that will start may 8th.

HopingForHarvard, nice going. Now we know for sure :)

“We have but one choice; we must face the long dark of Moria.”

Haha!

I’ll be the Frodo and you’ll be the Gimli. It’s a love story…

can someone read my waitlist letter and make suggestions if necessary?

I’d really appreciate it :)

My interviewer said that my regional admit officer is coming to my area to meet with the interview committee and pick the top wait-listed candidates…

anyone else get this info too?

^
Wasn’t even aware that interviewers really even had a say in the process aside from the report. ._.

Juanmarco, PM it to me and I’ll give it a read! :)

YEli that means that there is space for waitlisted students! I guess thats good news!!

Hypothetically:
Suppose a student gets a call with an offer of admission. Can the student accept the offer, put down a deposit, but go somewhere else if another wait list offer comes in? How much is the deposit?

Is it the same as accepting an initial offer of admission, but then going to another school? I am sure the deposit would be given up, but that is not so important in the big scheme of things.

The problem is that it seems that if the offer comes in, Harvard does not give much time for a decision.

To answer you with an example.

Mary gets admitted to Yale while being waitlisted at Harvard, her second choice. Mary accepts Yale’s offer and sends the deposit etc. But in the end of May she gets an email from Harvard College saying she got admitted. It’s perfectly fine to then accept Harvard’s offer and politely decline Yale’s offer, and thereby the initial deposit is indeed lost. Mary will be an accepted student just as the rest who were accepted and not waitlisted. And no one of the students will know that Mary was initially waitlisted.

But here’s the turn, Mary gets picked off from Princeton’s waitlist, her first choice school one week later in early June. Now she will does the same process over again, declining Harvard’s offer and accepting Princeton’s by leaving another deposit. The deposit at Harvard is now lost, just as the one at Yale.

I do not know how much Harvard’s required deposit is but it could be anything between $200-600 I suppose. Ask an accepted student :P

@Sublimate - Yes you can. It works the same way as an initial offer of admission. You’d just end up losing your deposit twice if you do end up getting of another waitlist and decide to go.

Put it in a short note or letter, and email it to the fileroom email address (the one that sent you your access code).

They responded the day after I sent in my update.

Harvard does not require a deposit to hold a place in its class. At least not for students admitted through regular decision. It has been this way for many years.

Don’t know if it’s any different if you are admitted off of the waiting list, but I’d guess and say that the policy is the same.

Sounds an awful lot like the “curing cancer” advice I heard before march 31 and a repeat of the interview. What would be the most polite yet effective way to badger an admissions officer? Thanks for dropping by to give advice.

Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam have just crossed the river and behold “an impossible labyrinth of razor sharp rock.” But wait, it gets even better: “festering, stinking marshland as far as the eye can see…”

I want this to end. :'-(

so long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee

No but seriously, I hope they will call me on Friday. It would really make my day :D

The long LOOOOOOONG wait till the end of June seems as a nightmare :(

Ahhh, polyptoton and chiasmus in bold burns my eyes! = english literature AP tomorrow…

Friday, hmm. What do I have scheduled for friday? Nothing but Harvard waitlist questionmark.

personally, i’m hoping that if i dont get in the first wave of admits, i’m at least in the first round of rejects. I could not bear to wait until july 1st just to still get rejected. I mean theres still a possibility to be admitted then but i’d rather just move on and get closure sooner.

Not to be totally feelingsless but I think Harvard is actually trying to do the same at the best of its capacity: looking for closure whenever possible.
