****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

congratulations to the both of you! hope that some of us get the call soon too.

Congratulations to both of you! Thats great! Anyone from Canada heard yet?

Congratulations!!!

thanks everyone  iā€™m excited!

iā€™m surprised to hear theyā€™re already going to the z-list! but anyways, it seems like west coasters were hit today with the news, so iā€™m betting you east coast kids will be getting your calls on monday if not later today!

ā€œiā€™m surprised to hear theyā€™re already going to the z-list! but anyways, it seems like west coasters were hit today with the news, so iā€™m betting you east coast kids will be getting your calls on monday if not later today!ā€

In response to this quote, do you guys think that all/most of the west coasters were hit today? Thatā€™s not true right? I think that the fact that weā€™ve heard of two people from California getting in merely implies that at the very least decisions are beginning to be made. However, it probably can be concluded that east coasters will start getting calls soon as well. What do you think?

Congrats btw to you guys who got in

Also, do we have any information on what the regions are? Are the regions big (i.e. Northeast region/West region) or are they a little more local?

Iā€™m guessing that the first round of admits (May 8) were kids that they were watching and wanted to review first. After that, Iā€™m guessing that each Admissions Officer then presents their list of kids. That would be consistent with what people have been hearing. I think the regions could be large (ND, SD, WY), or small NYC, but be balanced in terms of the number of kids. So, if you find out who your AO is, you can then find out how large their area is.

Congrats to the both of you! But now Iā€™m scared because Iā€™m from CA too :l

Keep on hoping or lose hope?

never lose hope!!

Thatā€™s my motto. =D

im in the same boat as you Spontaneity. Ughhh i hope we get a call soon. & lets not lose hope but lets be realistic. & hopefully i can take my own advice.

California is probably its own region right?

ok, so i am still not giving up on harvard, but i also need to keep deadlines for the place to which i submitted my deposit.

this includes the housing application and depositā€¦i am on the East Coast - until which day should i reasonably wait for a call before submitting my housing deposit?

Holland, Iā€™m in the same boat. I havenā€™t done anything except submit my wait-list card: no extra letters of recommendation or I-love-Crimson papers. Iā€™ve heard that that kind of stuff is expected. Oops.

An interesting article that, towards the end, discusses the application review process:

[The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Donā€™t Touch That File](http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=528030)

There are 40 Admissions Officers with about 1,500 students each. I would guess that CA is more than one ā€œregionā€.

An article from 2008 that says no transfer students will be accepted for the next 2 years:

[The Harvard Crimson :: News :: As Freshmen Move In, Transfers Crowded Out](http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=522698)

Interesting article, OperaDad.
If you guys are interested in knowing your regions, I would suggest calling the admissions office. When I called asking for my regional admissions officer, they were very helpful, so Iā€™m sure theyā€™d also let you know if your region has been reviewed yet for the WL.

good luck!

If anyone gets a call from an admissions officer with initials MM, please let me know. Thanks! :)

I sent my stuff directly to Harvard, not my regional admissions officer. Mmhrm :l

Last year there was a second article published at [The Harvard Crimson :: Harvardā€™s Daily Newspaper Since 1873](http://www.thecrimson.com) on May 13th (the first article being the one published on May 8th I believe) that had more official numbers about the waitlist. Are we going to get a follow up article? I suppose it doesnā€™t matter, but just curious. Oh and thanks Operadad for the info about regions.

Direct communication from a senior admissions officer this week stating that 99% of those who will be offered a place off the waitlist will know no later than Tuesday May 20.

ColonelMandrake, I think you refer 99% of those who will be offered a place off the waitlist in the first round, since they will be making another round that will continue to no later than July 1.

Iā€™ll call the admissions office on Monday to find out some more :)

thatā€™s discouragingā€¦ we have three more days to find out, basically? with very few exceptionsā€¦?
