****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

This is older info but I was told by an admissions officer (last year) that they look at the class stats of those who have accepted and then look to the waitlist to fill out the class. For example, they accept a world class violinist who then goes elsewhere…they look to waitlist to find another world class violinist. Same goes for an all rounder type student etc. They have a vision for the class and that may be some of the thinking behind the decisions. In other words I think its why it takes so long, there is no numerical ranking…just who is coming who’s not and who could fit into that spot well.

And for all you waiting…there are a lot of great schools out there…don’t let getting in or not getting into Harvard define the way you feel about yourself, Of all the kids who applied to Harvard I would guess most were qualified and those of you on the waitlist they wanted you just couldn’t fit anymore in. It really comes down to what they are looking for at the time. I know its hard to wait…Good luck.

It is such an ordeal. I wanted it to be over by now, and be decided. I wanted to be able to buy a shirt of my college and accept my fate, but Harvard is just dragging the process on so long!

EAO, thnks, really nice post that cheers up on these long , full of anxiety days…

Indeed, the officers will problably have to look firstly at the 491 students who declined Harvard’s offer and then move on to determine and thus find 85 of the most compelling cases within those 491 applicants.

They lost 491 students of the class, which was anticipated, but they never knew which ones. And if Harvard was to admit more people (to fill the whole class without waitlisting), then statistically, 2195 instead of 2046 then the difference would have been the waitlistees offered admission.

To lighten the mood of all you guys watch this vid on youtube: [YouTube - We Didn’t Start the Flame War](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QyYaPWasos)

Hilarious :D

^that kinda starts to apply to this forum  chilax guys, we’re not going to help anything by stressing out… I’m sitting my national final exams today btw, so be cool, I’m much worse off than u guys :)

I’m also off to a national exam in Physics :(

Starts in less than 2 h, wish me luck :)

gl reptil  I have 4 subjects and it’s an oral exam :-!

Today is the day…Good Luck everyone.

Good luck to you guys taking exams. Today could be the day  or well, it better be, lol. because today is May 19th.

Half the day is gone and still no news? Any one have anything to report?

On May 8, " Fitzsimmons said. He added that it is possible that students admitted off the waitlist will begin hearing as early as today, but more should find out by the middle of next week. "

“The middle of next week” after Friday May 8 was May 12, May 13, or May 14. If Fitz’ statement is not a bluff, then the whole process seems to me almost finished by now.

The admission process needs to be more open. When the process is secretive, it offers opportunity for abuse and fraud.

@Harvard Daddy, I’m not sure the admissions are finished. On Tuesday the 12th I heard that some regions hadn’t even been discussed yet. My thought is that admissions is finalizing regional lists, have made a few calls to kids they want to take off and the majority of those being accepted will be called today or tomorrow or even later this week. Hopefully today will be a good day. I think it says something that there are so few CC’ers who have gotten calls. If most of the calls already went out I think we’d hear from more than just parents.

Ya. My final went good or ok (to my expectations). I will total with 3 faults and the rest correct :)

ok guys, I dont think that Harvard has even admitted more than 5-10 yet from the waitlist… this is because only three from this entire thread confirmed that they were admitted, and harvard is looking to admit at least 85… stanford has admitted approximately 80 from its waitlist last week… and on that same day, many users joined the stanford class of 2013 group and wrote on the wall about their acceptance from the waitlist… now ive checked the wall for the harvard class of 2013 group on facebook… and no one even mentioned a single thing about waitlist… which allows me to safely say that less than 10, maybe even 5, were admitted… and its already the 19th!

And i agree with a bunch of you when u say that they shouldnt be so secretive… i mean the only way we know about dates and stuff is through articles published on the Crimson… I mean, cant they just send us emails with approximate dates? For example, as soon as Yale calculated its yield rate, they sent emails to the waitlisted students with the number of people on the waitlist, the number of people they are looking to admit, and the dates… why cant Harvard also do that?

and Im guessing its gonna take longer to fill up this year’s incoming class… now i know that this whole process lasts until July 1st… but they have different stages… because of some waitlisted students who are admitted and decide not to go, then they basically have a second waitlist session but with fewer number of people to admit and so on… so I believe that the first round of waitlist (around 85-100) will be admitted within the next week (19th - 31st max)… but it sucks that the range is so much… I just wish Harvard wasnt so secretive about everything

but again, who knows, they might start calling after 5 pm (EST) TODAY!

good luck to all waitlisted students… and please post as soon as you hear anything from the admissions office

All is quiet on this front…

I just called the admissions office a second time, and after I mentioned the May 20th date, the admissions officer on the line said “Where did you hear this from? There is no such date” like she was trying to bore into my soul. She went on to say that we’d be notified by email if rejected, phoned in if accepted, and that it would be gradual with no solid dates besides July 1st.

I hate to contradict OperaDad after all the help he’s given us, but unless he’s got information that can’t be released to the public (whoops), this did come straight from the admissions office.

OMGGGGGG

just got the call

guess the second interview did the trick

Congrats!!!
