****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

I am finally unlurking now. No admitted phone call nor did I receive my letter yet, but that’s probably because I’m on the West Coast (CA).

as for reason being tuesday…

same coast mailing usually takes two days…then sunday and monday holiday are factored in making it tuesday

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the user ‘roneald’ get admitted?

yeah, i got the call on thursday so i’m in for class of 2013!!
a friend of mine from school also got the call
and 2 kids (one legacy and one not) got Z-Listed.

Final school stats:
class of 71
7 kids in class of 2013
2 kids on z list

Placidia, I am on the waitlist. Thanks for adding me.

Too bad I don’t think I got in- no call or letter yet, we’ll see when the mail comes Tuesday.

Good luck to everyone at their schools next year!

@bh91 - Congratulations and seems like you attend a powerhouse school with 7 out of 71 students admitted. Can you tell us a little more about the school and location. What do you think differentiates it? How many national merit finalists were there in the class of 71. I am simply amazed at your school’s success rate.

not to sound mean as im on the waitlist myself but… i don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t call you ahead of time in addition to mailing you a letter if you were accepted… so… prolly shouldn’t get hopes up, unless there’s some chance you’re in for round 2…

I think at this point, no call=no admissions. All well, it was an honor to be on the list in the first place. I am going to school that i love anyway with a environment that is better suited for me! Congrats to all those admitted and best of luck in college!

LOL~ it’s probably never a good idea to get your hopes up on waitlists…

they devour you, basically… it’s their job.

Hey guys, just posting to say good luck, and don’t get too down yet. I didn’t get my final waitlist decision until June, actually, until after I graduated.

Another update. This is is the last update before the dreaded rejection-letter spree scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday. Hang in there guys!

Accepted: 15
Total CC-ers Waitlisted: 145 (possible 149)

Hey guys,

Just wanted to update the list right above me. I got the call last…Wednesday? Around then. I got Z-listed, as did three other kids. I know a lot of people from my school were waitlisted, but I don’t know yet if anyone got off for 2013.
Good luck to people who haven’t heard back yet! My school got the calls but a school right by us hasn’t heard anything yet, this is such a crazy process!

@GTR
I go to a new england Private school that is not Roxbury Latin.
i think we have 2 national merit finalists, one of whom is going to harvard.
1 kid of the 9 total admitted was an outright sports recruit.

Have heard nothing from Harvard yet… congrats to all the brahs who have been getting off the wait-list.

Just a quick question for those who have been admitted…how long did Harvard give you to make your decision? Did they want your answer immediately, or did they give you a few days to decide?

To those who came off the z-list:

How did that phone call go (I’m assuming it was a phone call)? And what special circumstances, if any, do you think contributed to you being taken off of the z-list?

i was waitlisted too, and now i’m way too attatched to the school i’ve committed to. i just want my rejection… haha

Although they call, the clock doesn’t start ticking until the letter is mailed. In fact, you can’t officially respond until you have the info in the letter (your student number). We haven’t received the Official Letter with the Financial Aid award yet. Originally, the letter was to be mailed on May 20 with a response date of May 26. Rumor has it that it was mailed on May 22 with a June 1 response date.

Note: I believe you can respond on-line, so you don’t have to worry about snail-mail for the response.

Operadad, thanks for all your insights. I understand this is not a wholly merit based process. There are other factors considered. In your opinion, what are the different profiles of a Harvard undergraduate entrant? Excellence in EC? Race? School profile? Excellence in academics? Excellence in Sports? Excellence in music? Arts? or a combo thereof? Why would someone who got a perfect SAT score (1st shot 2400), perfect ACT score (36 1st shot), perfect SAT subject tests - all three 800s, Rank 1 GPA, Gold national science medal, tennis team, Speech and Debate excellence, guitar and piano enthusiastic etc, nice essays (not perfect I’m sure) not get off the waiting list, leave alone straight admission? Puzzling…

Thanks, Operadad! I asked because I’m in the same boat as skagirl_az…I’m really attached to Cornell, and if for some miraculous reason Harvard takes me off the waitlist, I’d need some time to figure things out. But it seems like most of the acceptances have been issued already, so I probably won’t have to make that decision :)
