****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

the WL is not binding. send in your deposit to another school by the May 1 deadline.

What if the admissions office only waitlisted ~1200 applicants and all/most of us on CC are considered “Harvard material” that it seems as if there are 2000+ Waitlistees?

that’s what i meant about a higher percentage of “bubble applicants” ahhaha we didn’t post stats on this thread but there wouldn’t be much of a point, even applicants who were rejected straight out could very well be harvard material. :P

Just add my name to the list.

[Fewer waitlist acceptances expected this year - News](http://media.www.dailypennsylvanian.com/media/storage/paper882/news/2009/04/14/News/Fewer.Waitlist.Acceptances.Expected.This.Year-3708725.shtml)

this is for upenn, but
what about colleges overall? :/

I feel less will be taken off the waitlist because, due to the economy, many will be tempted by Harvard’s great financial aid.

1948 were accepted last year, and Harvard had a 76% yield last year. This year, 2046 were

aiming for a class of ~1650, we’d get:
74% yield - 136+ people off the WL
75% yield - 116+ people off the WL
76% yield - 95+ people off the WL
77% yield - 75+ people off the WL
78% yield - 55+ people off the WL
79% yield - 34+ people off the WL
80% yield - 13+ people off the WL
81% yield - 2-3 people off the WL
82% yield - nobody taken off!

Historically, the yields have been:
(class of) - (yield)
2007 - 79%
2008 - 77.6%
2009 - 78.5 to 79%
2010 - 80%
2011 - ~80%
2012 - 76%
average - about 78.5%

haha.

I don’t think any old information is any useful when the Fitz has already said that he anticipated taking more than 200 students off the wait list. Nuff said.

I agree reptil.

class of 70
5 accepted
4 waitlisted

I have heard that first committee meeting to figure out waitlist is on May 8th

"I feel less will be taken off the waitlist because, due to the economy, many will be tempted by Harvard’s great financial aid. "

I disagree. Everyone who would be offered a ton of financial aid aren’t going to turn it down
why would they pay more money for a school other than Harvard even in a good year for the economy?

The families that will be turning it down are the full pay and high pay families who decide that they can’t afford to pay extra even for Harvard. And this year with the economy in such a horrible state, there will be more of those.

Alright, its the 27th now and theres only three more days left for the admitted students to reply
so we will be hearing about this year’s yield rate within the next week

guys, lets hope we are lucky!!! I really hope, although i doubt it, that the yield rate would be less than 75%

Got my hopes up when Fitz said, “looks like its gonna be another good year for the waitlisted students.” Lets hope so!

Good luck you guys

and BH91, its true that they will first meet on the 8th
so to all you waitlisted this year, inform us in this forum the moment you get a admitted!!!

Anyone who thinks the history will simply repeats itself will be disappointed when it comes down to the yield for Harvard. The number seems very random over the years and this year’s yield will be no exception.

Historically, the yields have been:
(class of) - (yield)
2007 - 79%
2008 - 77.6%
2009 - 78.5 to 79%
2010 - 80%
2011 - ~80%
2012 - 76%

from here: [What to Expect if You Were Wait-Listed - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/2009/04/06/what-to-expect-if-you-were-wait-listed.html)

When do you guys think that the first waitlistee will hear the good news from the Fitz?

Really? ._.
I thought colleges put more students on their waitlist than before since they expect a lower yield from the accepted list.

well, i guess that’s good and bad^

not much we can do anyway
:(

i think they have a point about the financial aid - if harvard costs as much as a state U, then why not just go to harvard instead? Unless most of the people admitted to harvard got full rides elsewhere and would rather take that

who knows!
two more weeks until they’ll release whether they’ll be taking from the wl. until then, we should study for AP exams! :D

Won’t colleges release their yields by May 1?

attenuation, some have said that students, even if similar financial aid, would prefer a college closer to home. But how that will end up is still to be seen.

Harvard accepted more students this year, but I would expect a lower yield. Harvard will expect the same evident from that they accepted more students. Last year they accepted 227 off the waitlist while the Fitz initially thought they would be accepting 150-175.

Let’s hope this year they accept 227 X 2 off the waiting list! Though
that’s highly unlikely. =(

At many colleges, you have until May 1 to have your deposit POSTMARKED. That means they will keep getting responses in through the 1st week of May.
