****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

@ UndefinedUnknown,
where do you live? I’m international too so I’m wondering if rejection letters are still out.

Also,
Does this mean that rejection letters are still being sent?
I thought everyone who did not receive a letter last week are all on extended waitlist, being considered in the 2nd round

HopingforHarvard
i really hope you get in man
u’ve been really helpful on this thread and i really appreciate it

thanks for the latest update!

@yoyo687! I’ve tried to be as helpful as possible bc this is such a stressful process. I’m so glad I at least helped one person  thank you yoyo for making me smile today. I think we all deserve Harvard & it’s really their loss that we are not going there! You guys are all awesome & thanks for all the support !!!

@helloitsme:

I think that since you’re a domestic international, if you were to receive a letter, you would have received it along with all the other domestic applicants in your area.

My AO has not gotten back to me, however i just called and a nice lady said that she doesnt know when letters will be mailed but she speculates sometime nxt week maybe. She also divulged that bc of commencement deliberations have halted & that they should also pick up next week. Not sure if this is all factual but it is from harvard admissions. So i guess we wait until next week  ahhh the waiting game continues who will win we will never know.

which letters will be mailed? the rejection letters for anyone who is not admitted in the next few days? Given that H. has said they expect to be finished with the process by July 1st, I am wondering does that mean all acceptances will be received by July 1st–in which case, all outgoing offers would probably be made by June 15th, giving people a couple of weeks to juggle with the decision/aid/existing commitments/etc.

Man,
I didn’t know till now that there are so many people waiting for Harvard to release its decisions just like me. The wait’s been so long!! I’m glad that they are finally finishing it next week! Cross your fingers guys!! Good luck!!

A question:
would putting down $0 for family & student contribution work against you when you are international?

@nyc2cents i think your speculations are correct. rejection letters along with acceptance packages (for ppl who got phone calls) will be sent out next week probably with a reply deadline on or before july 1st. although im betting before july 1st. this round will probably end june 15th or so. That way students get their packages & have ten days to decide until june 25 and then reply. but idk just guessing.

yeah i agree, latest june 15th, cuz they do need a couple of days in the event that there arre still spots open…

thanks revesan_316 :]

so are they meeting up and speculating?
or is the whole process starting next week?

I emailed my AO and she hasnt replied either… darn.

Thank you guys so much for keeping us (the other eager WLers) informed. It really does mean a lot and it won’t go unappreciated!

I suppose we should just be glad that we had the opportunity to hope instead of being shot down completely during March. Plus, with the economic downturn and the sheer size of the class of 2013, I think we should all be very proud of ourselves for having gotten on the wait list. So, if the results really do come out next week, I wish you guys all the best. You guys def. deserved it. (:

Agreed, perhaps the girl admitted wrote a compelling essay about “nobody in our class likes her & often times she is the outcast”? Is she different, independent, not acting to please your group, not a partier, drinker, etc? Perhaps she is more mature, self-directed in her passions, driven by intellectual pursuits rather than social ambitions in the petty teen spectrum.

Obviously, I don’t know the details, but my heart goes out to the girl and what she had to endure as “the outcast”. I bet the teachers told an interesting stories on all of your recs.

^^^^ yes fauve!

… and as one with a similar personal experience of being treated as an outsider
until the day of my admittance I can say that teachers do notice this and
comment about it on their recommendations.

so I talked to the admissions yesterday and a lady there said that there have been meetings already but then the committee had to stop meeting because of the commencement. They will resume meeting sometime next week. And this is just her speculation but she thinks that letters could be sent out towards the end of next week or the beginning of the week after. Calls will also be made to those being taken off the waitlist. I myself don’t really know if any of this is factual, but it gives us a rough idea of the whole process so hope that this helps.

^ Does this mean that calls have not yet been made for the second round?

Thanks for posting, revesan! :)

Oh, and what do you guys speculate in terms of how many people are on the extended waitlist? Would you say 50% of original, or more, or less?

Face the fact. Very few, I would assume a handful of you here will be admitted from the waitlist, at most. Don’t wait for it to come, because statistically it will never come.

Go out in the sun and be happy about the school that accepted you! You are amazing and even though Harvard did not admit you doesn’t mean much after all. You don’t know at all how the admissions process works and that you could have landed where you are from bad luck or any other minor thing.

At this point, we’re just here to support each other and hope for the best.

I don’t think that calls have been made… not just yet… as to how many people are on the extended waitlist— it could be anybody’s guess, but I think that they would not try to keep too many people, it probably numbers in the hundreds.

To end, I will just quote someone.

“Go out in the sun and be happy about the school that accepted you! You are amazing and even though Harvard did not admit you doesn’t mean much after all.”

Well said. You have hit it right on the spot. At least you see this for what it is. Good Day to you sir.
