No no listen guys
my friend got a phone call last friday! that’s the deal

The way the Z-list works is that is a group of kids who for some reason weren’t the first choice candidates. But I know of at least 7 over the years, and all were legacies. One I know fairly well, was an excellent candidate–and considering she was a legacy, I was really surprised when she didn’t get in at the normal time.(She ended up turning it down.) I don’t really know about the others–one girl from my school, who wasn’t considered top of the class–supposedly her parents paid-up big time and she was a legacy from her mother. (She ended up going.)

Just spoke with woman at admissions. Plan to admit a total of 85-95 kids off waitlist, not saying where they are in that total. It’s rolling, as are the rejections at this point. Will let me know in the next TWO weeks…was hoping it was sooner. They “hope” to be done by July 1.

^^^so, does this mean that people will get rejected on a rolling basis or that we will all hear back from the admissions at the same time? thanks for your info btw.

It was hard to pin her down on that one. I think the majority of us will get a letter in a batch mailing, but it also seemed possible that we could get a rejection any day. The main thing I took away is that in two weeks it should be completely finished, but that it might not be done before then. So it’s still an open question, albeit sounds like very few places would be available at this point. And unlike last year, where they took 200 kids, this year they are taking less than 100.
I just heard about another kid who got the z-list, not sure when–he’s the son of my mother’s friend. He is a legacy and also his family has probably given lots of money over the years. (not to say he isn’t qualified, he might be–just not one of the uber-qualified ones)

I have been browsing this website for so long !!! Im also on this “extended wait list”- will they be calling the succesful ones like last time or simply emailing them?? Good luck everyone

From reading this through it seems like they are phoning people - Im a Harvard 14’er anyway - Good luck everyone!

Are you legacy, Biochick?

I think she means that she’s applying as a member of the HS class of 2010, so college class of 2014

I just called admissions & a lady said that they sent out letters last week & they still have more to send. So has anyone received a rejection letter?? i suppose they will be arriving any day now. & she said that we should know for sure by july 1st but we all know that already.

Okay, everyone: let me start off by saying you guys have been awesome for all this long, long time that we’ve endured the sting of the college process. You all are amazing people, and I will have my fingers crossed for all of you in the days and weeks to come. I’ll try to stop in to check CC from time to time so I can see how you all are doing!

I received a call today at 3:00 pm from my Georgia AO, she left a message and I called her straight back, and she told me that she “had good news for me” and that the committee had decided to grant me admission to the Class of 2013! When I asked about materials coming in the mail, she said they would not arrive until Monday or Tuesday, so I’d bet there are more calls to come this week.

I know there are plenty of equally or even more qualified people out there than me, and my next bit of information is not to showboat, but merely to give confidence and hope to those who are applying in years to come. I had a 3.7 gpa UW in high school, and that’s rounding up to the max. I got a 1400/2150 on the SAT with a 660 in math and believe me, it took a couple shots to get that 660. I got a 710, 690, and 630 on my SAT II Lit, French w/ listening, and Spanish w/ listening respectively. I couldn’t say whether my essays or recs were amazing or not, it’s hard to assess that for myself to be honest. But what I can tell you is this- for my essay, I thought of what I wanted to say, and just went with it. I asked teachers who liked me, but also teachers whose opinions I genuinely respected as well, and who I knew could write about who I am as a person. My IB scores were low, I was celebrating my graduation and not really studying, got two 6’s, a 5, and three 4’s. I took a gap year out of the blue so I could find my passions and enjoy myself. This goes to show that Harvard truly does practice what it preaches when it is said that they don’t cut off a specific SAT or GPA results or judge you irregardless of your character.

To those of you on the waiting list, or who have even yet to decide whether to apply…all I can say is, keep the faith. And even if you don’t get in, I know that every single person in this thread has made it this far for a reason, and that all of you will go on to do wicked crazy things!!!

Stay thirsty, my friends.

First of all, congratz.

“This goes to show that Harvard truly does practice what it preaches when it is said that they don’t cut off a specific SAT or GPA results or judge you irregardless of your character.”

Secondly, although this is true you were extremely lucky. How many applicants to you believe in the waitlist get pulled off with those scores? o.O

To Belly: No I am not a legacy - Im just applying for Harvard’s class of 2014

Z-List can be kind of random. I was put on it, as were a couple of other people I know. I’m not a legacy/donor/connected to the school at all, but the others were. I don’t know if it’s mostly alumni’s kids or not, but there are definitely a good percentage of non-legacies admitted through it.

Just out of curiosity, those of you who got in off the Z-list, are you planning to take it?

I know that if I were given the choice, I would have a very hard time deciding.

What would you be doing in your gap years?

Friend of mine just got in, also from Illinois

so has anyone gotten rejection letter yet?

i havent gotten anything yet! man, so at least now we know calls are being made :)

Hey guys, just wanted to let you guys know that I got in. I’m currently out of the country but my dad called me and told me yesterday night (which means that H called around 6/18). I also got an email from my rep congratulating me.

Congratulations!!! Alicimoo
I’m glad ccers are getting calls.

I’m just speculating but I bet that tomorrow is the last day to receive a call & after that there’s only rejections
but I think that judging by how the activity of the thread died down that most of us have already moved on! As for me I already registered for classes at Berkeley :)

I think I’ll post one last time when I finally get my thin letter from Harvard. Goodnight guys!
