!!!!Official 2013 Intel STS Thread!!!!

1st deadline is through! now…only one more week before the whole project is due!

holy crap, everyone submitted on time! I was worried about one of them, since I couldn’t bug her in person, but it’s done!

Now time to finish the “potential to be a scientist” essay… and the major scientific question one. Only ones left! oh god.

I’m a bit confused…is ISTS only for projects completed during your junior/senior years, or can I enter a project from sophomore year? (I’m a soph, btw)

@TeamRocketGrunt you can only enter STS as a senior in high school with an individual project, which you usually work on the summer before senior year and possibly years/summers before that. So yes, you could potentially enter your project from sophomore year but you would have to keep working on it and submit it in two years when you’re a senior :)

And @huehuehue32 I’m struggling with a similar problem! My mentor is planning on submitting my paper to be published so I have to do more experiments/run repeats but all I want to do is work on my Intel STS app :/

Phew. Finished with all parts of the application, except my test scores PDF won’t shrink down to under the limit.

Nice!! still gotta finish on that last essay question…

@quidditchcat AHH WAIT what test scores?!! Are we supposed to unofficially report our scores in ADDITION to the official reporting from the high school? I clearly missed this on the actual application…

Ahh, thanks, fieldsofpoppy. This makes much more sense.

fieldsofpoppy: wait, you get your test scores reported officially by your high school?
anyways, there’s this part of the application that says “Standardized Test Scores”
There, it says:

I tried shrinking my file in all the ways they said but it’s still just over the 2 MB limit. :/

submitted it all! glad to be done with it!

Nice!
I’m still waiting for my official November SAT II scores to come in the mail. They do this printout thing that includes all the SAT tests I’ve ever taken… I don’t know when it’s coming, but I suspect it is soon. If I do not receive anything like that by tomorrow, I’m just going to submit my app.

For ISTS, what SAT II score range is “good”? I made a 770 on Bio-M, and I may retake if it’ll help me with my application later.

Wait @quidditchcat your scores won’t arrive until 11/21 or something…

congratulations to everybody who submitted or nearly submitted their application. that is a feat unto itself. all of the best. college apps should be nothing now, right? :)

Oh, okay. I’ll just send it in now then if I can get the stupid pdf to shrink.

Just proofreading all of my essays!! So close to submission  Hoping to finish everything by Monday evening/Tuesday morning LATEST.

ok how are you guys submitting standardized test scores if you don’t have a paper copy?? (aka AP scores from last year)

do you think submitting online score reports will be okay?

yeah, that should be fine

I’m submitting my official scores from the college board but I’m not sure if they’ll get there in time :/
