***Official 2013 Siemens Competition Thread***

and haha @firstusajmo I did cancer research too  it’s such a cool field to study

ok I just re-read the thread and I think I understand it now:

~1400 projects enter Siemens → 300 are selected for semis
→ 90 are selected for regional finals → 60 total are selected for finals

the 90 regional finalists aren’t part of the semifinalist group, right? it’s a separate group? so total ~390 are selected out of ~1400?

Yeah regional finalists are separate from semi finalists. If you’re a Semifinalist then you’re done with competition.

What’s the number you guys called to hear the automated message about confirming that our projects came?

Do you think we can email as well? Did you guys send it to Trenton, or Princeton?

The phone number I called was 609-771-7878; however, on the Siemens Competition website, it says 877-358-6777. Not sure - maybe they are connected.

Well, there’s nowhere that says you can’t email them, so you could try emailing too. I sent to Princeton.

I sent to Trenton. Weird thing though, on the FedEx delivery confirmation it only showed NJ, and nothing about the city. The 0 on the room number also didn’t show up, which I hope isn’t a problem…Someone signed for my package though, so I hope it was delivered properly. Do you guys know who signed for your packages?

Yeah, I know who signed, I sent it to Trenton via FedEx as well.

Who signed for yours neutrality? Mine was signed by a F. Entwisle

Are you guys sure it isn’t 300 projects that make semi’s? College Board writes that “Up to 300 outstanding projects (a maximum of 50 in each of the six geographic regions) are selected as finalists, including both regional and semifinalists.” BTW, my project was on mathematical modeling of chemicals in the striatum… I entered the biology category since there was no neuroscience category.

Hey, and also, which zip code did your guys projects get delivered to? Mine was sent to 08540 in Princeton, even though the address said 08541? Did the same thing happen for you guys?

hey, i’m in the bio category, too! it’s a cancer, lab work project. apparently that’s the cliche of science fairs lol

and yes… i think so. i have to check, and i don’t really feel like it right now. i didn’t pay much attention to the delivery address.

Do you think that they’ll accept my project if it arrives Tuesday morning?

I wouldn’t risk it

Hey guys do you think its a problem if my abstract is past 200 words? its 217 (excluding title) and it would be really saddening if they didn’t consider mine because its a bit long. But at the same time, they said the abstract should be 100-200 words so its no necessary right?

justin5585, did you send your app in yet? i don’t think they’ll count the words in the abstract but i’m not sure…

justin5585 Just to be safe, I would cut it down to 200 words. Has anyone got info on which zip code your package if you sent it to Princeton (USPS)?

I already submitted…

Last year, my abstract was 220ish words but they didn’t disqualify me. But never hurts to be safe.
