Applied to: University of New Hampshire, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Boston University, Northeastern University… All Colleges of Engineering with Mechanical as the major…
Accepted: All! Can’t believe it
Waitlisted:N/A
Rejected: N/A

Attending: Northeastern University!!!

Comments: Boston University would have been my first pick if they weren’t so bad at delivering no debt education to veterans. Their yellow ribbon program is horrendous. I hesitated and gave Umass Amherst an enrollment deposit before their deadline because I hadn’t heard back from Northeastern yet… Now I’m out of $500 >:|

I called Northeastern’s admissions office yesterday, and requested the status of my application. After discussing several details about my preference to study there, and mentioning that I refused BU’s offer to anticipate NU’s decision, the lady on the line told me I was admitted to the College of Engineering! My god I’m so relieved! See you all in Boston :)

Attending: Wesleyan University (unless I am admitted to Brown University)

Comments: Be persistent, show them why you belong, and write a great essay. They are not looking for the best student with the highest GPA. They want to see that you can do the work and that you will add something to the college! That’s what is the most important thing! :)

Current School: Emmanuel College
Entering as: Rising Sophomore
High School GPA: 3.17
College GPA: 3.79
SAT/ACT Scores: 1490/21
SAT II Scores: Not Taken
Significant ECs: Listed things I did in my senior year as well as my freshman year of college. Collegiate Lacrosse Team, Volunteer Group. (Nothing over the top)
Hooks: From the Boston Area… I don’t think I have many hooks haha… Just wrote my essays as I would talk to someone/ a friend BE YOUR SELF IN YOUR ESSAY Being an INDIVIDUAL is SOOOOOOO IMPORTANT, can’t stress it enough!!!
US/Intl: USA!

Applied to:Bentley, Villanova, University of Miami, Vanderbilt, Tulane, University of Maryland College Park
Accepted: Tulane, University of Maryland College Park, Bentley, University of Miami
Waitlisted:—
Rejected: Villanova, Vanderbilt (The V’s weren’t in my favor haha)

Attending: Stuck between Tulane and Miami, leaning as of now more towards Tulane

Comments: I didn’t know what I wanted in high school. Was going to play college lacrosse, decided not to my junior year of high school, messed up my college list. Ended up at Emmanuel and ended up playing lacrosse. Got my grades up. First semester 3.68 and Second semester 3.9. Wanted to get out of the area, but if I stayed I would have applied to Tufts, BU, BC, and Northeastern. So happy I got into Tulane, thought it was a reach for me and was accepted! DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!! Senior year I didn’t even bother applying to any of these schools cause I knew I wouldn’t get in and now look at me! And SAT/ACT scores barely even matter, I AM THE PRIME EXAMPLE OF THIS!!! haha, I didn’t even get close to hitting a mark close to any of these school’s average/range. Also, prime example that you can do poorly in high school and get your act together and end up at a great school!

Websites I used to help me transfer: collegeconfidential.com, collegeboard.org.

Princeton Review Book also helped.

Accepted: UPenn, Cornell, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, UNC, USC, Miami
Rejected: Yale, Brown (fin aid)

Attending: Stanford!!!

Comments: Old posts have a wealth of knowledge. Interpret what you can from them and make your own judgements as to where to apply. If you have financial need be aware it is a major factor for Brown! I applied to 11 schools, anticipated admission to 4 or 5 and ended up with 9 offers. Don’t be afraid to reach…Stanford, Yale, & Brown (w/fin need) were my 3 super reaches and I got into the biggest reach of the three!

It really is down to luck when applying to the top 15-20 schools where admit rates are ~10% or less. I wrote my Stanford secondary essays the night they were due at the tail end of a mid-term week from hell (almost didn’t bother writing them to go out partying w/friends – figured I had 0 chance)…in contrast I spent days on the Yale & Brown essays editing every single word. Brown was my dream school going into this process, figured I’d end up at Georgetown/Vanderbilt, and am ecstatic to be headed to Palo Alto!

Current School: Grand Rapids Community College

Accepted: Depaul U, Loyola Chicago, Portland State U
Waitlisted: None
Rejected: None

Attending: Depaul U

Comments: I had a rough start at CC and I had to defend that. I did this honestly and back this up with dates and facts since I knew that colleges would be getting transcripts to double check this with if they wanted to. I tried to convey that I had learned how to be in college and I believe that I have gotten that point across.

Waitlisted: Hamilton, Tufts.
Rejected: Hamilton, Wesleyan.

Attending: Northwestern or Tufts.

Comments: I really do think the biggest thing you can do is show interest. I probably should not have gotten into Northwestern, but I emailed a professor I knew there several times and was constantly in communication with the admissions office. You’re not going to get into very many schools as a transfer if you don’t show them why you’re a good fit and why you really want to go there. Also, don’t word too much about your high school grades.

Accepted: UPenn, Wesleyan
Waitlisted: Brown, Dartmouth
Rejected: Amherst, Columbia, Middlebury, Williams, Yale

Attending: Either UPenn or Brown (got off the wait list!)

Comments: I got rejected/wait-listed from 7 schools during finals week before finally getting accepted. It has definitely taught me how to deal with rejection/stress and keep my head up. If you have good reasons to transfer, it helps a lot.

Applied to: University of Notre Dame, Tufts University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, safety school!), Brandeis University, Emory University, Rice University, Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth, New York University, University of Miami (safety!), UC Davis, Brown University, Northwestern University, Barnard College

Accepted: Notre Dame, Tufts, NYU, UC Davis, UIUC, UMiami, Brandeis, Emory
Waitlisted: Brown, Rice, Vanderbilt, Barnard
Rejected: UCB, UCLA, Dartmouth, Northwestern University

Attending: 99.9999% sure that I’m attending Tufts University  . It kinda depends on Notre Dame’s financial aid package, but to be honest Tufts feels like the perfect fit :3

Comments: I regret applying to Brown, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and the UC schools at the last minute (literally began the application process three days before they were due). At the time, I didn’t think that I had what it took to even be considered for admission and holy crap was I wrong! I also regret not applying to Cornell University. I think that if I put a little more time into my essays, a lot more time polishing up my application, I would have definitely been accepted into most if not all the schools I was rejected from/ waitlisted at  . That’s just a hunch! Regardless, I am very pleased with the turn-out and the process has shown me that I am capable of much more than I think I am.

Hello CC transfers  !! Good luck to you all and you are capable of so much more than you think you are  ! Reach for the sky and even if you fall you’ll land amongst the stars  !
