Other Factors: none

Decision: Deferred

Stats:[ul]

[] State or Country: Maryland
[] School Type: Public, ranked around 50 in the nation for all high schools
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[] Intended Major: Undecided, Sociology.
[li] major strength/weakness: I’d say GPA, class rank as weaknesses, strength is mostly in my ECs[/li][/ul]Other Factors:

cairo10, I’m not sure of whether or not you made it, but I hope you did. And honestly, I am a little bitter, but I refuse to let it get me down. I think that I, along with all the others who were deferred or rejected, will end up okay. If anything, this hazy state of deferral is pushing me to make progress on my other applications.

Deferred! I am sooo excited!

I mean, I have some of the weakest test scores, with a 2120 SAT, Math-670, Critical Reading-690, and Writing-760, and my Rank is just OKAY (6 out 187). Also, I am in VA, which does not help.

I thought I was gonna be rejected, but, I have no more chance! AHHH, I need to DOMINATE the ACT this Saturday!

Decision: Accepted!

**Stats: **[ul]
[] SAT: 750M 800CR 730 W, 2280
[] SAT IIs: 800 US History, 790 World History, 750 Lit
[] GPA: 3.77UW, 4.18W
[] Rank: 17/175
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Wrote my Common App essay on food and cooking and how it reflects different cultures’ philosophies and outlooks on life (basically, the typical Asian-American ‘I don’t fit in!’ essay
[] Teacher Recs: Four, counting the Arts Supplement. English teacher and APUSH/AP Econ teacher both wrote very strong academic recs, my photography teacher wrote a pretty staid one. I think my old fencing coach’s rec is what did it.
[] Counselor Rec: Unsure - I don’t think anything too exceptional.
[] Hook (if any): I sent in my Arts Supplement for photography - I do a lot of concert photography in particular. Otherwise, no hook, just a upper-middle-class Asian kid.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Ohio
[] School Type: Competitive, nationally-ranked public
[] Ethnicity: Asian-American
[] Gender: Male
[] Intended Major: Creative writing, Government?
[li] major strength/weakness: ‘atypical Asian’ factor, strong leadership as strengths; GPA and class rank as weaknesses[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I think my essay, recs and extracurriculars did it for me. My test scores were good, but not incredible by any means, and my grades were so-so for an Ivy. Definitely think the ‘atypical Asian’ factor might have helped as well. Pumped to be a '14!

Oh, and congrats to all who got in! I hope I will be seeing you there next year!

deferred kinda means rejected for dartmouth right?
(I was deferred by the way)

was ANYONE rejected or is CC just doing really well

Being deferred really isn’t so bad. If you had no chance, you’d merely be rejected off the bat. Considering that they will consider your application in the regular decision process, and that you weren’t rejected, you’d be more likely to get in than the average regular decision member. Anyways, most of the deferred students have better stats than me, so I think they’ve all got a great chance. I for one, wish you the best of luck, because many of you probably deserve it more than me.

Rejected.

Not in the mood to say anything else. oo0oo

congrats guys to all you accepted!

i’m so sorry to all you deferred/rejected. :frowning: i can only imagine how terrible you must feel. it will be hard, and i’m sure you’ve heard this a thousand times, but you will all get into other schools that you will love!

-Columbia EDer

To all who were rejected, don’t be sad/upset/angry/down in the dumps.

Where you go to college doesn’t define you as a person and doesn’t decide how well you do in life. There are plenty of other schools and you will end up very happy and probably even happier there than at Dartmouth.

Keep calm and carry on.

Congratulations to all accepted, good luck to those deferred, and to those rejected: you’ll do amazingly well, and have one hell of a time, at another school!!!
-From a (nervously anticipating) Brown ED-er!

My daughter, was accepted, she’s pretty sweet if you ask me but otherwise she’s just that typical very well rounded girl from Massachusetts. Dreams can come true!!! By the way her equally well rounded prom date from another school was also accepted - how cool is that???

My good friend got deferred, which really surprised my friends and I and especially him, he was CRUSHED! Dartmouth was his dream school and he is VERY qualified. I don’t know his full stats but I do know

SAT: CR 800 / M 760 / W 800
SATII: USH 800 / BIO 750
APs: USH 5 / PHYS B 5 / FRENCH 5
GPA: ~3.70 (very good at my school, which has only 5 people over 3.90 out of ~200)
School type: private, most competitive, sends ~40% of the grade to the Ivy league each year

Race: Caucasian
Gender: Male
Area: New York City

Basically, this came as a pretty big wake up call to my friends and I, who have pretty much all applied early to one of Columbia/Brown/Penn/Cornell/Yale. We had all FIRMLY believed he was guaranteed acceptance, and his deferral doesn’t exact speak well for us, many of whom have lower stats.

I felt terrible for him though, he got so hyped up and ready, and then got crushed.
