Could someone chance me please?

Currently a Sophomore planning on applying to the SFS for the fall of 2015 as a Culture and Politics Major (which may allow me to keep the religious studies end of my current plan) or International Politics/ Possibly also applying to the College as a Government major

College Extracurriculars: Undergraduate Research assistant for one of my religious studies professors, Student Assistant in the Sociology, Anthropology, and Religious Studies Office, Radio host for college station (helped organize and start the station this past year and will hopefully begin broadcasting this year), Peer advisor for a First Year Seminar for the coming year, Selected for Electoral Commission for the coming year (Oversees the elections that take place on campus)
Letters of Rec: Hoping to get a strong one from the Professor I worked as a research assistant with and another from either another religious studies teacher that I am peer advising for or my politics professor

I know that my math scores from my SAT and ACT tests are low, but I did take a math course my second semester and received a 4.0 in it to prove that I can do better than is presented in those scores and previous grades

oh, i also forgot to add that I made deans list both semesters this year

@KingofSweden‌ have you heard anything back yet?

Was rejected on the 8th. At Duke and loving it B-)

Great to hear!

Can’t tell you definitively (because I’m not a student from Georgetown) but just based on your extra-curricular involvement you have a really good chance of getting in. I’m in my sophomore year at UMass Boston majoring in political science and I gotta say I’m really jealous of what you have already accomplished. Bravo

@"SFS Rules"‌
I’m getting my recommendation letters from the Chair of the Chemistry Department, and other professors from BIOL, ENG and CHEM.
SAT: Reading - 500, Math - 580, Writing - 540
Majoring in Biology

Based on the “hard” info you’ve provided, it wont be easy to receive an admissions offer.

You have a good GPA. A 3.55 (30 credits) is good, but try to get it higher. I haven’t seen the latest transfer stats, but past AVERAGE accepted transfer GPA is in the 3.7+ range.

You’re SAT scores are not competitive (GU does not count the writing section). On the bright side, as a Junior Transfer, they may not matter as it will be the discretion of the admissions office to request your scores as part of your application.

Although you have some good ECs from HS, GU will focus primarily on your college ECs/work experience.

But the most important factor will be your essays. If I recall correctly, you require a Dean’s Letter, 1 Letter of Recommendation, and 2 (3?) personal essays. A) The Dean’s Letter is generic and will not affect your admissions decision unless you have academic related issues. B) 1 Letter of Recommendation should suffice unless you feel multiple ones are necessary to “paint” a complete picture of you. C) If presented and written in the right fashion, your personal essays may overcome your SAT and GPA “shortcomings”.

Put your best efforts forward, apply, and see what. Just be sure to have a back-up plan should GU not pan out. Good luck.

@"SFS Rules"‌ So Georgetown doesn’t require SAT scores for transfer applicants with 30+ credits? (I will have 55 by the time I apply) Are you saying they may request to see them, but they don’t require them? My SAT scores were horrible (1680) but I have an upward trend since HS, 4.0 GPA, college EC’s, etc.

@NCXfer‌
Thanks for pointing out the SAT requirement for transfer applicants. SAT scores are required of ALL transfer applicants unless the applicant has been out of HS for more than 5-years. However, when I applied to GU, I was well over the 5-year exception, but GU still requested my SAT scores.

@"SFS Rules"‌ any idea on how much it is factored into admission decision considering my stats? Will they see that I’ve grown side HS and be slightly forgiving of my lackluster scores?
