Official 2014 Georgetown Transfer Thread

@chemistryking i don’t think so… they might send us emails in case they don’t have everything

@cjburton23 gotcha thanks

Georgetown doesn’t give us any indication (Like an account or something) for updating or sending more info?

No, I called them. they said that if they don’t call or email you, then you shouldn’t be worried because they have all your materials.

Any ideas on my chances?

I’m coming from another 4-year Jesuit institution, current political science major, applying as a government major
Units completed: will be 69 by the end of this semester
GPA: 3.82
HS GPA: 3.3 UW
SAT: 2010 (680 reading, 670 math, 660 writing), so 1350 CR+M
ACT: 29
College EC: President of Ambassadors (Student Tour Guides), President/Founder of Debate team, Vice President Risk Management of my sorority, service in Belize (as part of a selective service organization), project leader for a rebuild project in my city from my school (similar to habitat for humanity), Justice in SGA, tutor in government classes
High School EC: President of Debate team, President of French Club, Secretary of Key Club, President of our Youth and Government program, 4 year varsity tennis player and cheerleader
Essays: I think high quality/strong, wrote about coming from a Jesuit institution and tied my career goals into the values of the university as well as the professors and opportunities available
Recs: One from my dean (I’ve done research with him so I hope it’s good), one from a political science professor who is an alumni of both georgetown undergrad and law school, and one from a philosophy professor (the only professor who has given me a B on my transcript and he wrote about how I was one of the best in the class)

@allisonlauren94 looks solid to me. Funny thing is that my essay is almost exactly structured as the same way as yours as I also come from a Jesuit University. Good Luck!

Anybody get an interview yet?

@luthsn I did! I’m scheduling it for next week.

@alr317 did they send you an email about scheduling it or did you call to set one up?

@cjburton23 I was emailed and given their contact information and then had to contact them to set it up.

I had mine in January, after I submitted part 1. It went very well, I think.

I’m from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Will I get one?

Just got contacted for my interview today and have sent an email to my interviewer. I wouldn’t worry if you haven’t been contacted yet. I think I submitted Part 1 several months ago and only just got contacted.

i got contacted for one im so nervous

No need to be nervous about it. These interviews are not confrontational - they’re there to allow the school to get a more personal picture of you. Not just you, the applicant, but you, the person. I really don’t think that interviewers are there to bar you from entry, far from it. If anything, they’ll help you out, albeit in a small way. Instead of thinking of them as gatekeepers, think of them instead as ushers.

Hope that helps.

@cellodiego it was helpful, thanks. we’re so used to the gatekeeper mindset that everything we have to get into a college is another hoop to jump through, you know. you need this SAT score, you need this GPA, you better hope your extracurriculars and life story are “interesting”, and i really hope the interview isn’t like that too.

i typed up the email i’m going to send my interviewer but haven’t got the nerve to send it yet.

A little worried I didn’t get one yet… I’m in the DC region at U of Maryland so this is odd

@Luthsn I’m at AU and I haven’t gotten one yet either, so either they have a lot of kids from the DMV to sort through or they just don’t have their program together.

Has anyone been contacted regarding missing materials?

@CelloDiego I haven’t. I contacted the Admissions Office and they said it would be sent out soon.
