I assumed at someone would eventually post this so I made it myself!
Post people, post!

Hi everyone! I am currently a freshman at St. John’s University in Queens. NYU has been my dream school ever since I was very young and I really hope that I am able to transfer.

I didn’t do very well in high school. I graduated with a 3.0 and only got a 24 on my ACTS. However I have been working my ass off here and I was wondering if I was able to get a GPA between 3.8-4.0 here would I have a chance of getting in?

I would probably apply for Fall of 2014 just so admissions can look at all of my grades and so I do not have to submit my standardized test scores.

Can someone please give me their thoughts or opinions on it? Is this far fetched, or a possibility? Any advice would also be great. Thanks so much.

i am applying for january 2014 admission. if i get accepted into either BU or Umichigan i will not choose NYU though. i am a non gay male so i am unsure if i will fit in at NYU, i am not really a hipster either, but i like the economics and poly sci program. and living in NYC would be righteous.

i’m also currently a freshman and was wondering if the recs HAVE to have at least one college professor? im not sure i could make a connection that fast…or could I?

I’m glad someone started this thread. I’m looking to transfer to NYU Stern for Fall 2014. I’m currently a freshman at Ohio State University. Didn’t have that great of a high school record, 3.3 unweighted/3.9 weighted. SAT was 2230. Didn’t get into NYU as a first year, for obvious reasons. Now I’m working my ass off. Best of luck to all of us.

@minuteman35 I emailed an admissions officer and they said even though they require your high school transcript, they don’t take it into consideration for admissions. So it’s all based off of your GPA for college coursework. This came as good news to me, I’m sure you feel the same way.

@MrTaiTea That is great news, I am feeling so relieved, thanks so much!

Hey currently Im with you… sort of.
I want to transfer in as a Junior. But I dont know what classes will transfer. What classes are you taking at your current college ( or what is your major)? I want to get in to CAS

please chance me

^ @minuteman35

Hi everyone! I’m also applying to transfer. I was rejected as a freshman -_- lol. @minuteman are you sure that you don’t have to submit standardized testing for the fall? I was looking over the transfer site and it says you are exempt from submitting standardized testing if you have at least one year of college experience at the time of applying. We will have almost a year but not quite when we apply so I think we might still have to submit standardized testing. Well I sent an email to an admissions counselor so it’ll be cleared up soon :D

I will most likely be applying. I’ll post stats with decision

What can I do to improve my chances of transferring into NYU Stern for the fall 2014? What can I do? It’s literally been my dream school since I was 13. I’m a finance major. My high school stats aren’t that hot, but I anticipate a 3.8 gpa by the end of this semester. Please help me.

I transferred to NYU Stern this past fall and was pretty much obsessed with the Fall 2013 transfer thread. I thought I’d check out this year’s thread because CC was so helpful to me last year and see if I could answer any questions. The transfer process wasn’t easy, but in the end it was worth it!

I transferred as a sophomore from Wake Forest University with a 3.3 GPA and 33 ACT. Transfer to NYU Stern is crazy - they only accepted about 25 out of over a thousand applicants for Fall 2013. I don’t know how they chose who to accept and how on earth I was one of them, but it happened! I wanted nothing more than to transfer there specifically and never thought I’d get in, so have some hope even if you don’t think you can! Out of those 25 that got accepted, only about 10 accepted their spots.

I knew I wanted to specifically transfer to NYU after my fall semester last year, so I was able to base my spring schedule around the classes Stern wanted transfers to take (I took Calculus I, Intermediate Micro, and an English class). I don’t know if the classes they want applicants to take has changed since then, though (I found the information on their website). Also, I studied for the ACT and retook it (I was able to raise it up 3 points from my high school score of 30). As I mentioned before, doing all this wasn’t easy and required a lot of work. I asked my French professor, who I had become close with, to write me a recommendation, so I’m sure it was good.

Stern didn’t release their decision until mid-May - my decision came out May 16. Everyone was freaking out because they hadn’t heard from them, and I had already finished the school year almost two weeks prior. If you applied, don’t freak out if you don’t hear back until then. I became obsessed with my year’s thread because I was nervous about whether I would get in or not and just wanted to see what was going on. After going through the process and looking back, I realize how crazy it was. If anyone has any questions, I’ll try and check this thread often and answer them if I can! Good luck!

Were you able to get housing?

Because of a housing shortage, NYU kept delaying our housing assignments throughout the summer. They even warned us that we would possibly have to live in temporary housing in a hotel (paid by NYU) until they found us a dorm a few weeks into the semester. Luckily, I was given an assignment in one of the popular dorms on Union Square a couple of weeks before move-in. They had extended the housing cancellation deadline in order to accommodate students who didn’t want to accept the possibility of doing temporary housing.

Hey all! I applied for Fall 2014 as well. I emailed the admissions office about testing scores and was told they weren’t necessary after at least one year of college credit. Getting super excited to find out!!

Hi everyone! I just submitted my application to Gallatin for Fall 2014, I really hope I get in! I was just wondering a few things if I do get in: if you do get housing, does anyone know which halls we’d be able to pick from? And, totally unrelated, but if you already filled out the FAFSA because you’re already in college, is that what applying for financial aid is? Because I was reading the deadlines on their website and it said the financial aid application deadline is April 1st, so I was just wondering if that’s a separate application I have to do?

Best of luck to us all!

I don’t know if anyone will write back to this, but I have a high school GPA of 4.0, college GPA of 3.9, attend CU Boulder, have an ACT of 32 and SAT of 2130. I also have strong essays and a good letter of rec from a professor. I have worked and done a lot of community service, as well as a lot of music-related activities. What are my chances?

When do you think we’ll hear back from them! Mid-April I’m hoping?

@greengecko I read early May on their website

@mel325 Perhaps it depends on the school we’re applying to? On the Tisch website, it says notification mid-april, but where on the NYU site does it say early May?
