[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I love Scripps but I am so confused between Bard, Smith and Scripps! :frowning: Any advice for me? And to the ones who is still waiting for the letter, good luck! To the ones going to Scripps in the fall, hope to meet you soon!

Star,

I’ve heard great things about Scripps and Smith, but I don’t know anyone who has gone to Bard. I think a major thing to consider is where you want to spend the next two/four years-- east coast or west? Both schools are very good academically, so you’ll be successful in that department either way. Smith is very liberal; Scripps is liberal as well but not as outwardly so. You may have a better time finding connections outside of the school’s resident city at Smith than at the Claremont Colleges, but really it’s what you make of your situation.

I’m still having trouble deciding between Scripps and another school too, so I know how you feel. Best of luck! Congrats on your acceptances!

star-I applied to both Smith and Scripps…Smith was always my favorite(and only they offered me admission, Scripps WLed me)

I think both have their perks, but Smith is tops for me!!! You should join the facebook group for class of 2014

Accepted

Stats:[ul][]SAT:2260-780 Writing, 760 Math, 720 Reading
[]SAT II: Chinese 790, 720 Math IIC
[]ACT: N/A
[]GPA: 3.9 weighted
[]Rank: N/A
[]Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): N/A

[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: Solid, a little rushed but many people read them and were fairly impressed.
[]Recs: Very good I’m assuming; the teachers knew me well and I did well in their classes
[]Supplementary Material: The analytical paper was on affirmative action and was well-researched but very rushed and not as polished as I would have liked it to be. Received an A- on that assignment.
[]Summer Activities: Internship, English teaching job, and charity project in China (all self started)
[li]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): N/A
[/li]

[/ul]Personal[ul]
[]Location: California
[]High School Type: Public, large
[]Ethnicity: Chinese
[]Gender: Female (duh)

[/ul]Other[ul]
[]Extracurriculars: SD Teen Court, summer activities stated above as well as various clubs, volleyball, NHS, CSF
[]Awards: National Merit Finalist and $10,000 corporate scholarship winner
[li]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: While my high school record has many ups and downs, I ended my Junior year very strongly and had several summer projects that definitely helped me a lot. My essays also offered explanation for my high school performance and how it doesn’t reflect my actual aptitude as a student (proved by my SAT scores and National Merit Finalist standing).
[/li]

[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul][/li]I’m excited that I got into Scripps but not sure if I will attend due to cost. My parents made too much last year for financial aid but our financial situation has changed drastically and so I’ll be writing a letter of explanation to Scripps. I think I will make my decision based on their response. If I still don’t receive aid then I think I might be going to UCSD. The same applies to Smith also.

Congrats to all the accepted!

My daughter is in the same boat – scripps v bard – and I can’t get her to talk to me about it (can you tell I"m feeling just a little frustrated?) What are you thinking? Maybe it’ll help me figure her out!
