"Official" 2014 USABO thread

@Audrae The USABO website set March 5 as a tentative date.

At this point, I don’t even want to think about all the questions I got wrong. It’s over now, and there’s nothing I can do to change my answers.

honestly, it doesn’t matter if you got 43+ or 33+. We all get to take the semifinal on the same level. Don’t worry guys :D

yeah, um, this was brougth up a few pages ago, but you should really take those answers down/not post answers right after taking the test in the future. some schools did indeed get extensions, for example my school: we took the test today. there really might be others that have yet to take the test. and you don’t want to raise the cutoff unnecessarily, no?

Hi guys,

I think I got a 50 on the test, assuming I guessed correctly 10 questions (I am a very good guesser). Biology is really not difficult and all about memorization. I think the cutoff will be lower though, maybe 20, as I am typically over twice as knowledgeable as a semifinal participant. Please let me know if you need any help with bio!

… please don’t tell me this guy actually posted this. Or at least tell me he’s a ■■■■■

Umm we should prob delete the questions in that case
Just kidding we can’t /:

lol what if CEE invalidates the test and we don’t get USABO this year

I doubt it. I’m just afraid of a drastically higher cutoff (mid-low 30s). Does anyone know the past cutoffs for years besides 2013?

upper 20s usually. in 2010 it was 24

I think one of the highest cutoffs in the past (2011) was 29.

The stupid thing about this is that we know that at least one person looked at this before taking the test as he/she took it today. And, we know that many others also took it. So, we have raised the cutoff by potentially 5 or 6 points because we discussed that many questions. This is bad.

Don’t like 10,000 people take it annually? I doubt a few higher scores will raise 5-6 points…

Karma will “select for” those who work hard. Cheaters will be “selected against”

besides, it’s only the open exam. If this happened on the semifinal exam… we’d be done for lol

CEE should just redo the Open to ensure test integrity. There is time…How hard is it to rewrite bio questions anyway??

they wouldn’t do that lol.

mmm pretty hard if you want to ensure the integrity of the questions. ten bucks says they had these done more before 2014

Sigh but really if the cutoff is above 33 I am actually screwed.
And tbh I definitely don’t deserve the score I got and definitely think I could’ve done better.

@Lucky139 is this your first year?

Yeah. Except it’s also my last year so it really would crush me if I didn’t make it /:
