Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
My writing in general was unique, strongly voiced, but perhaps a little dis-unified. I honestly forget precisely what I wrote about for each section.

[] Teacher Recommendation #1: Fantastic, from my Latin teacher whom I’ve had for four years now.
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: From my last year’s chem teacher, evidently he writes incredible recs.
[] Counselor Rec: Great.
[] Additional Rec: None.
[] Interview: Decent, but a bit awkward! My EC didn’t know that MIT offered anthropology or archaeology, didn’t know much about the housing system or any of the courses currently offered, and when I told him how much I just felt right at MIT, he said “so you just like the atmosphere?” and wrote something down.
[] Art Supplement:[/ul] None!

Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: October 29th.
[] State (if domestic applicant): New York.
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Mid-sized public, 2000 students, competitive.
[] Ethnicity: White!
[] Gender: Male!
[] Income Bracket: 100,000-150,000.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/ul] Not many.

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My writing.
[] Weaknesses: Not enough punch, no hook besides some unique ECs.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I simply think I didn’t stand out enough. My test scores weren’t as spectacular as they could have been, my ranking isn’t fabulous, I have unique qualities but nothing was so stunning that I needed to get in.
[] What would you have done differently?:[/ul] Nothing! I simply wasn’t meant to go to MIT.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I’m surprised about how good I’m feeling right now! I expected to be deferred or rejected, and I really just feel nice now that I’ve got one rejection under my belt. MIT doesn’t offer Russian, so I’d have to take courses over at Harvard, and that could be messy, so perhaps this is for the best. MIT would have be absolutely awesome, but I’m positive that I’ll find an awesome college experience somewhere else! UChicago (top choice) and Madison (second choice) decisions come out tomorrow for me, and I’m excited for them! Congratulations to those who were accepted, good luck to the deferred, and best of luck to the rejected who will be awesome students at another college. After all, it’s only undergrad!

Major Awards: Nothing National / Many State Awards in Mathematics, Mu Alpha Theta, FBLA, Qualified for AIME in 2010, Rotary Award, National Merit, AP Scholar.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars: (President) of FBLA Chapter and Math Club both Junior and Senior year, (Officer at Large FBLA Sophomore year, Knowledge Bowl, Varsity Golf 3 years [JV 1] with dozens of individual golf tournaments away from HS League play. Qualified for State Championshp for 2011 (2.5 Handicap), NHS, Leadership Team with large youth group in my community.

Job/Work Experience: Summer Employment as a Legal Assistant Intern and an Accounting Intern at two different firms.
Volunteer/Community service: Lots. Won two highly regarding Community Service recognition awards, service work with homeless, soup kitchens, native american nation camp, South LA youth facility [I’m from WA State]
Summer Activities: Boys State, WA Business Week [twice], Summer Mission Trips, Lots of work and lots of golf.
Essays: I spent twice as much time on mine for Penn than any others. My Passion for Penn were Wharton, SEAS, M&T and the Community Service outreach Penn has with Philly. The latter was heavy focus of my essay as its so important to me.
Teacher Recommendation: Should be very solid.
Counselor Rec: Should be very solid [don’t have access to read either]
Additional Rec: Didn’t submit from my FBLA Advisor and now wish I had.
Interview: Went well - also an M&T Alumni / lasted nearly 2 hrs

Other
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Needed some Aid
Hooks: None really as MIT dropped golf a year ago as a Division III. As a 2.5 handicap, I would have likely started for them.

Reflection
Strengths: Leadership, Personality & Character [or so I’m told], Top at my school in grades taking more APs than any other student,
Weaknesses: Not really sure - Kind of frustrated figuring that one out.
Why you think you were deferred: My HS is one of the top publics in the state, but is regarded more for strengths in liberal arts and fine arts than it is in mathematics and sciences. It only offers 9 AP classes [I will have taken all but AP Fine Art]. No offering of AP Economics at my HS probably hurt me. Perhaps deferred from M&T as I haven’t yet taken AP Chem and AP Physics until now [getting A’s in all 5 of my APs with 4 weeks to go]. Will need to take SAT II Chem for another school and perhaps they’ll look at January sitting as it should arrive same time as my mid-year report.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted Georgia Tech, Deferred Penn, Awaiting early action responses on Michigan and MIT. Regular Applications to Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Stanford, ??.
General Comments:
Need to find out if they’ll still look at me for M&T Regular or if I’m simply only able to be viewed for Wharton.
