**OFFICIAL 2016 Berkeley Results Thread**

<p>Hey guys I just went into Cal for an interview and was told that I am accepted. I know a few other students who are in consideration for the Regents scholarship have also heard back so I thought it was time for a thread!</p>

<p>I was accepted! I also interviewed for Regents! And I’m totally going it’s been my dream school since last spring break when I visited. My major is bioengineering.
My best SAT was a 2050 (math: 700; reading: 690; writing: 660), but my super score is 2090 (math was 740 in my first SAT).
SAT IIs - math II: 770; bio w/ molecular concentration: 730
My GPA is a 4.0 unweighted (if you don’t count my freshman year).
I’ve taken six AP tests and passed all of them (Euro: 4; Spanish lit: 3; English lang: 5; APUSH: 3; Spanish lang: 5; calc BC: 5)
I’ve taken two IB tests and passed both of them with 6s - Math SL and Spanish SL.
I’m going full IB so I’m taking four more IB tests and I’m also taking two more AP tests.
I don’t have an extended number of extracurriculars, but in the things I do participate in, I’m quite involved and hold leadership positions in all of them.
Really what I think made me most attractive to Cal was my essay. I lived in Spain for three years because my father was in the Marine Corps so I wrote about my experience moving around, focusing on my time overseas. It was my only college essay I wrote so I worked really hard on it and am really proud of how it turned out.
I’m really crossing my fingers that I get Regents! My interview wasn’t bad. I literally only saw one other white person the day I went, so that’s one way I stood out :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway, go Bears! Go Cal 2016!</p>

<p>I am sooo jealous of you! Congratulations!!! Two more weeks of waiting for me :(</p>

<p>Accepted

<p>Thanks! Yes, I’m an in-state student.</p>

SAT II: Chemistry - 800

<p>Many extracurricular activities; President of two clubs, Vice President of one. And I was active with the clubs - made one grow from 10 to 130 members in under a year. Also I think I wrote very good essays about my clubs, my passions, and my interest in Computer Sciences (required for applying to EECS). Maybe this info can help future applicants.</p>

<p>Decision: Rejected

Volunteer/Service Work: Some volunteering for synchro. fundraisers, some hours at the library

<p>Yeah, so…kind of upset that I didn’t get in. It may have had to do with my low subject test scores. Oh well, I got into UCSD and UCSB, so that’s good. I wasn’t really planning on going to Berkeley anyways, I felt it was too big. Still having to decide. This thread is making me think that admissions are often a crapshoot. Grats to everyone who got in!!</p>

<p>Filling this out as best I could remember of S’s application. He got the notice by email today.
Decision: Accepted
College and Program: Letters & Science, Biology</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT I (by section): 2280 first try, 2310 or so best combination of 2 tries. Best scores: 790 math, 720 reading, 800 writing.
SAT IIs: 700+
APs: Multiple, scores mostly 4-5
GPA (UW, W): 4.65
Rank: Top 5 of class of about 100</p>

<p>Subjective:
ECs listed on app: University of California Cosmos Research Program (very highly recommended), school “newspaper,” photography. Not really a long list but I think the Cosmos experience stands out.
Job/Work Experience: Hospital volunteer, community service at local school.
Essays (subject and responses): S is a decent writer. Did not let me help with his college essays (all his cousins did, but not him!) but I would assume that it’s good.
Teacher Recs: 2, very likely exceptional.
Counselor Rec: Excellent but probably generic.
Applied on (EA?): No
Hook (if any): Father UC Berkeley class of 81, mother UC Berkeley class of 84. I do not know if S mentioned this in any part of his application.</p>

<p>Location/Person:<br>
State or Country: Southern California
School Type: Small private, competitive and I think very good reputation.
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male</p>

<p>General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Best of luck to all who are waiting for the answer from this tremendous institution. If accepted, you will likely have the time of your life and meet the smartest people you will ever likely to meet (my premed days at Berkeley were more challenging than subsequent time in med school). To this day, our (my wife and I) time at Berkeley remains the best of our lives. 30 years post-graduation, I could also tell you the name “Berkeley” brings respect far and wide. My son most likely will go to Pomona but still, GO BEARS!</p>

<p>Wow you guys are really accomplished! Selendia I’m out of state, so I’m really excited to see Berkeley. </p>

<p>Too Bad I can’t make it to the overnight campus tour :frowning: its prom night and I have an internship interview in the morning.</p>

<p>Hi everyone, I am new to college confidential (I’ve read the posts for quite a while though).
So I am not sure how to format any of this (you should see me try to send a text message. I am probably the weirdest teenager ever.
Decision: Accepted
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.85 UW
SAT I: 2130
SAT II: US History 760 Math II 690
ECs: I was a political columnist for my highschool’s award winning newspaper and a three year participant in the Academic Decathlon
Race: Hispanic (Cuban, so not really URM)
Gender: male
Essays: fantastic, considering I hate writing
school: private christian, absolutely no reputation
Accepted: UC Merced, UC Irvine, Cal (spring admit), Fresno State
Waitlisted: Calpoly SLO, Pomona College
Rejected: Stanford, U of Penn, Harvard (I had an extra fee waiver)
Comments: I expected the rejections I got, although I was stunned to be waitlisted to Calpoly. The acceptance to Berkeley was fairly stunning, considering my lack of EC’s and overt conservatism displayed in my essays. But now, I think I will most likely attend there.</p>

<p>Great! Guess I’ll see you all there…aha I might be trapped within my lab work though. Electrical Engineering Computer Science is going to be tough.</p>

<p>Maybe moderator could add this to the first post: To make the formatting (font and font color, bold, etc.) of that first post work, you copy and paste, then you MUST GO BACK AND ELIMINATE ALL THE SPACES in between letters, slashes, & parenthesis, etc., that somehow were built into that first post’s framework.</p>

<p>[/ul]Reflection</p>

<p>Strengths: solid grades & unique EC’s that show focus interests/dedication.
Weaknesses: international. I think that was a problem for a lot of schools.</p>

<p>Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably grades mostly. I’m rather confused as I was accepted here but rejected to less selective schools (barnard, NYU)…but it’s for the best!</p>

<p>Kirwin!
I have to visit Berkeley soon too.
I got into NYU, but they don’t have a strong science/engineering program.
Berkeley is a natural choice :)</p>
