As an out-of-stater, will the extra fees be worth it? I really want to move out to CA and Berkeley is an amazing school, but I’m a little worried about the debt I’m going to have by the end.

Edit: I also visited the campus this last summer! Not sure if that makes a big difference but thought I’d add it. And congrats to those who were also accepted!

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, essays
[] Weaknesses: ECs are mainly non-academic, no work experience outside of volunteering
[li] Why you think you were accepted: Strength of my essays, my teacher who helped critique them, said it was evident when reading them how much I’d put into it. Plus my scores.[/ul]
[/li]

General Comments: Despite being just 40 minutes from where I live, Berkeley is a strong contender for me, and at the moment it’s where I’m leaning. The ‘Peace and Conflict Studies’ major is a real draw for me, because one of the concentrations is human rights, and that’s an area I would like to work in in some way.

I was going to dismiss Berkeley at first, because I thought my parents would expect me to commute, but they have said I can apply for housing as they appreciate I want to be part of college life. They also said they wouldn’t expect me to go home a lot, because my two older brothers are at colleges further away, and my twin brother will be heading over 3,000 miles away to Middlebury College. Therefore, if I opt for Berkeley, they said they’ll treat me like I’m further away too to make it “fair”. When did my parents become so understanding?!

@CAdancer,
which university did you choose?

Everybody is scaring me with their test scores! I have a high and very good GPA but low test scores: SAT 1590 and ACT 24. I applied to Berkeley and if my essays or EC’s don’t impress the admissions people, I don’t know what will. lol
