Official 2017 Waitlist Discussion Thread

Hey, guys! Have you heard anything back from the admission office yet? Will they be accepting waitlisted students this year?

Amherst will admit about 5 per cent of the Class of 2017 from the waitlist this year, the first time in two years:

Does anyone know what the yield was like this year?

Wait, is that a recent article?

I thought that article was from 2011.
I am a waitlist student at Amherst and Williams. I’m dying to get off one of them. I know Williams is using their waitlist for sure this year, but I’m not sure about Amherst.

I think the colleges should start contacting us by May 15th if we get off the waitlist. I heard that that’s when colleges start alerting people about their acceptance.

Good luck to all!

^^Ouch. You’re absolutely right. The article is in fact six years old. My apologies. However, in my defense, a 25 person admit rate from the waitlist does sound in the ballpark.

You can see the waitlist history for the past 10 years or so if you check out the Common Data Sets on the college website. They went to the waitlist for a good number last year, so the admit rate was a little higher this year.

D received email today saying they were not accepting anyone from the waitlist. She had declined a spot, so I’m not sure why she received the email, but receive it she did.

Really, ejcclc?

I have a hard time believing that since i called the admission officer and the office lady said that the waitlist will continue till mid-June.

Ejcclc is definitely wrong. They have taken some people from the waitlist. I got a call from Amherst this past Thursday. I was so excited, I couldn’t answer the lady with a coherent sentence! I have been checking this page for a couple days, but haven’t said anything because I didn’t want others to worry if they haven’t been contacted.

That pretty much corresponds with what happened last year. One wave was on May 8 and the other on May 15. So yeah, good luck to all of us. :frowning: I really want to be accepted…

@Amherst17: Did they send you any emails after the call? I am an international student so chances are that they might not reach me by phone.

Jumbo3695,

Yes, they did send me two emails, one confirming my acceptance, another about financial aid. You even got the dates right. I got the call on the 8th (which is actually Wednesday, not Thursday like I said before), and received the first email on the 9th. I wish you luck on the second wave. I still can’t believe I got in at all, I was pleasantly surprised to get waitlisted in the first place.

@Amherst17: A big congratulation on your achievement! That must be an immensely pleasant surprise. Did you do anything regarding the waitlist, like sending in any additional materials as suggested? I tried to submit some supplemental stuff and contact the officers to indicate my strong interest. As of now, I think my chance is extremely low because my stats are just OK for Amherst - totally not that typical perfect kid. But oh well…

Besides, did the lady tell you anything about how many they have taken off the waitlist so far?

Thanks in advance for your information!

Jumbo 3695,
Thanks. I really hope I can go, it all depends on the financial aid. I would already have the financial aid information, but I didn’t submit the stuff on time. Fortunately, they said that won’t affect the award, just when I find out what it is.

I did send in a letter of continued interest, it was only 300 words. She did not tell me anything about the number they have taken off. I’m a little surprised no one else who has been taken off has said anything on here. That kind of implies a smaller number to me.

Good luck to you. Don’t lose hope. My own stats are definitely not perfect.

any updates on anyone’s waitlist status?

Got off the waitlist! So thrilled. Here i come amherst class of 2017!

congratulations kim7564! when were you notified?

I was notified last Tuesday at around 4PM.

great! congrats.

well, I just called them and if you’re an international student (like me) and you’re still waiting, they’re only taking domestic students off the waitlist, so if you’ve got an offer from another college, you should definitely take it.

Really? That’s quite unfortunate. I feel like Amherst would want to increase the number of its international students. I suppose not. And I have officially decided on Amherst over Williams!
