I Got In Full Ride Too

I'm international, never been to Baltimore, heard it's kinda sketchy though. Can anyone give me advice? I'm debating whether to go or not.

Its really not that bad. As a soon to be Junior, I've been here in Baltimore a while and believe I'm about as neurotic as anyone (yes, I'm a spoiled Westchester kid!) and I've never been afraid here. Just be smart about it and it's completely fine.

Hey canadiana, are you from canada? :)

ACCEPTED
Geez it feels great but I am a little undecided between GTown or JHU. I am scared about Js reputation for having no social life if you dont wanna join a frat? I would love to hear your comments!

Yes, I got into Johns Hopkins

JHU was my first choice college. MIT was my dream first choice but JHU was the more realistic first choice. If I get off the MIT waitlist, which college should I go to?

JSimons:

Js reputation for not having a social life is clearly documented as a misconception as seen in the "Common misconceptions about JHU" in the second page of the big fold out poster in your admit package.

Most of the misconceptions about having no social life stem from the common misconception that all JHU students are premed students that strive to achieve and maintain their perfect 4.0 GPA average. Not true at all. Only 30% of all students at JHU are premed students, and students attend JHU from around the world to gain an education in a variety of different subjects such as international relations, biomedical engineering among many many others.

The final questions that you should as yourself:

Location, location, location! Are the colleges in close proximity of your house? Do you want to experience four yrs in another part of the country?

What do you want to do in your life? Both colleges are top tier colleges with exceptional reputations in fields relative to career paths which may or may not apply to you. Why go to GTown for medicine when obviously JHU is a more suitable choice? GTown and JHU both have the best international studies programs but what if you choose a career in political science or government? GTown would be a better option in such a case.

Financial aid. Money is always a motivating factor in almost all college decision choices. If you get a financial aid package that is extremely lopsided, try to fight for more aid, see whether or not JHU or GTown would really be generous enough to give you more grants or scholarships. Accumulation of debt is one of the worst prospects for a recent graduate of any college, and getting rid of all your debt will be a life long process.

COLLEGE VISITS usually break the tie breaker. You get the experience the real college itself and learn more than you could ever learn from a book or off collegeconfidential forums because your physically at JHU and GTown!

JSimmons, see the other post on social life!

Thank you so much for your great advice. However campus visits are not available to me as I live in Germany. I will take a look at the link AdmissionsDaniel put on CC.

I see a whole lot of ''got in''s and not a lot of ''rejected''s.
But thats ok.
I got the green light, as did 4 other ppl in my school, and no one got the red light.
A lot of ppl, however, got the yellow light in my school [4].
College decisions are so crazy...
Glad I got in tho!

jhu '11 (hopefully)

Question: Is anyone going to the open house on april 24th?

I've decided in the end not to go to Hopkins, but good luck to everyone out there who will be going!

My daughter finally made up her mind, and she IS going to HOPKINS!! I am so happy. I feel she made the right choice and it will be a good fit for her. She had a great time at the overnight and open house 16-17th.

My son enjoyed the open house/overnight visit! He can't wait to go!

WOOOOOOOOO! I just got off the JHU waitlist! I'm in, baby!

Does BME equal premed? I'm confused.

BME (Biomedical Engineering) does not equal premed. BME is an Engineering major whereas premed is an advising track that prepares students to apply to medical school but it is not a major.

Some BME students are also premed, but not all premeds are BME. You should really read up about the BME program to learn more:
