Official Acceptance Thread Class of 2010

You know the drill....anyway, I don't wanna be the first one to start. I just wanted to start the thread ahah

i should seriously be working on my english paper...

i don't want to seem presumptuous by posting on the "accepted kids" thread yet and jinks my chances, but, as one of the many things wonderful about haverford is that it encourages a culture where students don't talk about grades/stats,... could this thread please not include stats/grades... like the other colleges. how about talking about you extra-curriculars, what majors you're interested in, why you like haverford, how you feel about co-ed bathrooms,... just my thought (no offense, merudh123)

Accepted

extracurriculars: varsity swim and tennis, volunteering at an afterschool program in the bronx, president of outdoor club, writer for two school newspapers.

major: dunno, I like so many things. Maybe biology, English, Political Science, or economics.

What I like about haverford: small size, friendly community, honor code, location, and the fact that there are many more women around than men if you include Bryn Mawr.

Decision: Accepted

As per Wok's request, no SAT stats will be reported. Let's be different in this decision thread!

I recently started working as a Pharmacy Technician at Eckerd.

[li] Why I think I was accepted: I like the whole haverford environment but in all reality however, Haverford isn't my top choice. If I get rejected from brown and tufts, then haverford it is. I hate saying this, (I know those of you who are waitlisted are thinking... he took my place) but I'm just being honest. < Honor Code > I'm not gonna lie and say Haverford is my top choice.
[/li]

quirks I like about haverford.. I like the honor code aspect, the idea of having co-ed bathrooms (in responce to wok), cricket team, liberal arts curriculum, the fact that there are more girls (if you include bryn-mawr), and the crazy high accept rate to med school.

OTHER THOUGHTS: From what I hear, haverford is not much of a party school. Well, I'm a big partier, so I guess if anyone else enjoys partying, let me know lol.

I think we should include grades/sat. Although they don't matter once you're in, they're REALLY important for getting in and therefore will help provide useful information.

yeah I guess it doesn't matter for us, but for those who may view this thread in the future it may help.

but Haverford is not too big on sats just as a word of advice.

SAT: M:800 V:780 W:800
* SAT IIs: IIC: 800 IC: 750 Physics: 710
* GPA: 96.02/100 (School doesn't rank or weight) All my classes are honors (Very competitive high school...just won Best of the Best of 3000~ schools from the nation from Intel Schools of Distinction)
We only have one offered AP...AP CALC AB. That's the only AP I've taken.

Good scores and grades...

I'm in from a public school in Baltimore.

I don't think I'll go, but if I do I'll play baseball.

Which would be amazing.

Decision: Accepted

2290 SAT: M:720 V:800 W:770
SAT IIs: Bio/M: 800 USHist: 800 Lit: 740

Rank: School doesn't rank.
Pretty good public high school

Subjective:

Varsity/JV baseball 4 years

If i go itll be to play baseball...waiting on UVA and financial aid....

Accepted

Sorry guys, not posting stats...as far as I'm concerned, that's over with.

-ECs: Choir, honor societies, Student Government, Ambassador Team, Science Olympiad

-Major: English Literature/Creative Writing

-Location: New Orleans, LA

-White female

-Why Haverford? Honor code, community setting, Philly...I just got a really great vibe when I visited and talked to admissions reps.

Lily Briscoe, from to the lighthouse, right? I have an essay to write on that book due after spring break. What a pain.

I GOT IN!!!!! Whew, I finally got my letter...and was surprised and delighted to see that it was a big envelope! Haverford rules! I was actually expecting to be rejected, the letter said that only 1 in 11 applicants were accepted this year. So for all those of you who were rejected, take heart...those are ridiculous odds. I'm sure you'll be accepted somewhere amazing!

Ecs: orchestra, quartet, newspaper, habitat for humanity, past 2 summers at Oxford university and stanford
Essay: I wasn't sure what they wanted, so I kind of jumped off the deep end. But i guess it worked :)

libs, they said they have 11 applicants for every seat...that doesnt mean they accepted 1 in 11...that would be a 9% acceptance rate. They have an acceptance rate in the mid-twenties probably. Either way though, it is very hard to get in and congratulations!

Lemonjello: Yes, Lily Briscoe from To the Lighthouse. 'Tis my second favorite book in the world. :)

My stats:

Okay SATs, pretty good SAT subject scores, okay GPA.

ECs: President of Video Club & Pres. and chapter founder of Mu Alpha Theta, VP of NHS, lots of television work (my last three years have been consumed by it), cancer researching fundraising, independently-sponsored trips charity trips to Vietnam, journalism/writing/social research, a lot of travel, more stuff.

I'm not going to Haverford, though.

I think my essay got me in if anything. It wasn't "WOW!" but it was different and, in my opinion anyway, flowed nicely.

Other stuff: I failed online PE. I also sent in my supplement a little over 2 weeks past the deadline. So... those who haven't heard, there is hope!

Also, I'm an Asian female.

ok. this is for next year's applicants. my stats/activities are very similar to those accepted and waitlisted here and probably at other top LACs as well and not worth mentioning in detail (student council, academic decathalons, music, sports, volunteer work...). i "think" 2 things helped my application.

i knew the school inside out. i spent a whole day looking up haverford on the net. my interviewer said i knew more about the place than he. i knew more about philadelphia opportunities as well. in addition, my essay was tailored to haverford. it was not a generic "insert college name here" type of essay.

all of my college interviewers mentioned the fact that they liked that some of my activities were not highschool related... they said it was "life experience". for example, i worked last summer and into this year doing policy research and basic draft writing for city council.

i also think getting in is a lot of luck. i don't know if these things really helped, but i can't think of anything else.

Yeah... I didn't think I would get in.

I wrote 4 sentences for the supplimentary essay because I was too tired to write somthing real.

Go figure.

*Decision: accepted *

[] Why I think I was accepted/deferred: am i an URM at haverford being asian? if i am, i guess thats a hook.
[*] Other thoughts: I got rejected from mucho mucho other places. my decision has come down to uchicago or haverford.

ummm. i don't think asian americans are considered "urm". 3-4% american population vs 13-14% at haverford...

did you cry 11x out of happiness?

well i didnt know what haverford's percentages were on minorities.

i cried 11 times because i got rejected from columbia, dartmouth, upenn, williams, johns hopkins, northwestern, tufts (lol), waitlisted at wash u

granted those arent 11 colleges, but i cried an extra 3 times for the fun of it.
