Northeastern's acceptance rate is down 4% from 39% so it is 35%...That is pretty darn competitive.

Didn't they accept even less? I think it said they had 34000 applicants and only spots for 2800?

...So isn't that 8%? Lol...That is less than an Ivy League.

Around 9% (3200/34000; though it said over 34,000 applicants...2,800 spots available + over 400 spring acceptances [2800+400]).

Only around 25% of those accepted actually enroll, so they have to accept a lot more than they have room for.

They will accept about 10,000, knowing that a lot of the kids they accept will end up going to other shcools.

In other words, they have to accept about 10,000, so that eventually 2,800 enroll.

I got my acceptance e-mail last night

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: For Northeastern, probably the National Achievement. And the subsequent high SAT score. Research that correlates with my intended major (I work in a neuro lab at the National Institutes of Health)
[] Weaknesses: GPA. Junior year was my worst year. Downhill trend...My 2nd rec, when I read it, wasn't too stellar, just okay. I didn't see his checklist.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: It was one of my safeties and I kind of expected to get accepted, but the scholarship was a big surprise. Looking on here, it seems like National Achievement was what pushed me to the top.
[/li]

[/ul] General Comments:
I got the Trustee Scholarship, full tuition + room/board for 8 semesters. I’m really happy, because looking at last years thread, very few people seemed to get it and a lot of people only got the Dean’s Scholarship. It looks to me like it’s the National Merit and Achievement stuff that really did it for most of us who got the full scholarship. I don’t know if I’ll accept though, I’m not sure it will provide the close-knit campus feel I want, but I’m definitely taking a second look at NEU because of it. Congratulations to those who got in and good luck to everyone who is on the waitlist.

Summer Activities: Carnegie Mellon Architecture program in summer of sophomore year, 6 weeks, Johns Hopkins Univ. Center for Talented Youth summer prgram 5 years, 3 weeks each.

Essays: I talked about my meandering interests in school and how I havent pinpointed my area of focus. Basically turned the whole undecided thing into a big positive. :)

Teacher Recommendation: My Calc teacher, who thinks im smart but that I dont apply myself wrote me one. She doesnt allow people to see the rec's but i took a big risk with this. From the early responses from colleges (NYU, NEU, Geneseo) I think she really helped, so i have to go buy her a gift at the end of the year. Other one was from my Architecture/Design and Drawing teacher who i had my first three years. Really was an empty class but she got to know me....so ehhh.

Counselor Rec: I think i saw her like 12 times in the span of a month, when she was doing mine. She wrote about my family in Mexico and my connection to them, which I never talked about in my application so it shows another side of me. She likes me a lot, but thinks I could have done better in school. (I have no regrets )

Additional Rec: nope

Other

Interview: GOD NO
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yeah. My mom hasnt sent the NON-CUSTODIAL Profile yet so im waiting on that.

Intended Major: Undecided (im slightly privy to being a chemical engineer as that is what my favorite uncle does)

State (if domestic applicant): NY (god I love Boston)

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: Tex-Mex (no not really. Half Mexican half irish)

Gender: male

Income Bracket: upper middle class

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM- Tex-mex (thats what my mom calls text messaging. IDK why she does but it makes me LOL)

Reflection

Strengths: My good grades, SAT, GPA, my essays and I guess my recs which probably show my proclivity to not do any work.

Weaknesses: If my school ranks it has to be that. GPA is so idiotic. I know kids that could have taken AP classes but decided not to because THEIR COUNSELORS told them not to. So its an easy 96 or 97 while im busting *** in AP Calc or AP Chem and getting mid to high 80's. Schools should just not rank because having an arbitrary weight system is so clearly illogical it makes me......bleh

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Because Im awesome. HAHA. No, ummmmm. IDK I think I met their standards pretty well, and im assuming the scholarship came with the rec.'s which I can assume were good? IDK.

General Comments: I got the Dean's scholarship. Not sure if I am going. I have to wait and see what happens with UPenn and Cornell and if I get a coop program at NEU, because Geneseo is only 14 grand.

Accepted for spring semester. Stats:
