Official ACT April 8th Thread

I think there were 120 students in the school. 55 took one of the classes, 40 (?) took the other and 20 students of the 85 took both. I just subtracted 20 from the sociology class, added that number to the number taking the other class, and subtracted the resulting total from 120. I remember the answer ended in a 5. It was either 45 or 55, depending on how many students were in the 2nd class (I know 55 in the first one).

45 in the second one i think

I put yes for the sealab because the added part of the sentance was "an underwater habitat where people could live and work." The rest of the essay was about underwater habitats, and nowhere before that last added part did the introduction say underwater habitat, it just talked about Costeau and some other stuff.

Just another question, does anyone know specifically why the science was so hard? It seemed to me that the key was just underlining what was different between all the experiments in each passage and referring back to them. It seemed to me no harder or easier than the practice tests.

For the sealab...

They referenced that like there wasn't a place where they could live and work until... Sealab. To add that extra sentance was just repetitive. The prior sentance already conveyed enough decriptors.

i didnt add the part about the sealab, because the two words previously described the sealab just like the added part would

i put no also

what was the answer to the venn diagram one? I think I got 5 or something.

it was like 45 or 75

I guessed 5. I bet I am wrong

lol...me too! I know it's wrong though. I was in a hurry and just subtracted everything and ended up with five. Grrr.

<3

I think it was 25. It definitely wasn't 5. You had to take into account the number of students who took both sociology and drawing.

My brain was on over-drive.

Expecting probably a 24 in math now.

$%A@!

(=

so what are you expecting on this ACT theoneo?

I hate it because I know when I get the copy of my test, I will be like, "What the heck was I thinking?"

There's always June.

English - 32
Math - 36
Reading - 30
Science - 34

...I think? I don't really know about science because I thought it was really easy and I had a lot of time to spare, but everyone else is saying that it was incredibly hard and I don't know if I made any dumb mistakes on the way... I got an 800 on SAT I math so I'm not as afraid of dumb mistakes on the math section and I checked almost all my answers... for English I've always made a couple mistakes on practice tests, so I'm expecting a low-30 score, and I know I didn't do as well on Reading because I was rushing the whole time.

I JUST WANT MY SCORE!

This is what I am guessing this ACT will be

English- 32
Math- 24
Reading- 25
Science-24

I need at least a 26 to get into the Honors college I am applying to.
With the last ACT, the scores came out pretty quickly. I hope the same goes with this one.

New predicted...

English - 32
Math - 32
Reading - 32
Science - 31

These are all complete guesses :-P

How does the essay factor into all of this?

Oh whoops forgot the essay...

I'm predicting a 10. I got 10's on my SAT essays as well, and I don't think this one was particularly better than those. Unless if the ACT emphasizes different aspects or grades more easily/harder.

Hmm I got a 12 on my SAT Essay but I don't think my ACT one was as well composed. Unless they really like a barrage of the word "privilege."

does anyone know any specific reading answers that you know are right?

They combine it with your English score. If it is good enough, your English score will go up. If it's bad it will go down. The thing is...it really doesn't matter because they don't average in your English/writing score with your composite. Basically it just shows colleges how well you write without affecting your composite. Lets say you get a 12 and your English/writing score moves to a 33 but your composite still only has the 32 factored in...not the 33.
