Official ACT February 2012 Science Section

its must be, but forgot choice…

@Asq - It was C) but it think the explanation you said was incorrect. It weakened the position of hypothesis 3 because it proves there is no correlation between humans and the extinction if they coexisted for 10,000 years.

@Hwjwill - yes and yes

@nehccire - isnt qQ and Qq the same thing…? o.O
also hwjwill - thats what i thought but

(a) 1 because the creatures died before humans settled
(b) 1 because the creatures died soon after the humans settled
(c) 3 because the creatures died before humans settled
(d) 3 because the creatures died soon after the humans settled

neither c or d makes sense
for c, they came 10000 years BEFORE so the creatures couldnt have died before humans settled
for d, that would only prove 3 is right

im pretty sure those were the answers
i went with b?

@asqwertyui311
the question is asking that, given the fact that human and creatures can coexist, which scientist’s point would be weakened. I agree with @nehccire’s explanation and i think ur choices are really incorrect

does anyone remember the question about how many liters of water would have been collected or something like that? I think i put 8…:/

@ baegopa

I’m pretty sure I put down 8 liters as well. There was like 40 minutes or something of rain and it collected a liter every 5 minutes. 40/5=8

@ajcaras
The question was about Rain Event 2 which lasted 40 mins, and it stated in the passage that 1L was collected every 5 minutes beginning 5 minutes after the start the event so that would be 8L for sure

@baegopa: It was definitely 8. I didn’t really remember the context until ninatenfour wrote it out and I’m pretty sure what she has is right.

Oh that’s good :slight_smile: does anyone remember the questions to the seventh passage? (e0) I had to rush through those…

@baegopa
I remember 4:

 1. How to calculate tramsmit percent? The answer is 100% minus absorbance percent
 2. at 0.8 MeV, which of following is 0% absorbance.i dont remember exactly the answer. A and C maybe?
 3. At 0.1 MeV, whats the order of absorbance from greatest to smallest. didnt remember the answer, but is definitely not ABCD
 4. whats absorbance percent for C? the answer is 27%

did anyone remember the last question or confirm answer for these?

@hwjwill

I got 100% minus something cuz everything else made no sense…

On the second question Im pretty sure it was a and c too!

And on the third question I think I put the answer choice with the ‘d’ for the first letter in the answer…(someone confirm??)

27% is also what I got…:)

@hwjwill

 1. Same
 2. Same
 3. I think it was DBCA but I’m not sure. It was definitely not ABCD.
 4. I got 27%

@hwjwill

For 3) im pretty sure the last letter was C because C didn’t branch out of B until later in the graph.

Would (-1) on the science section ever be a 36?

It’s a possibility, but it’s very rare. This science test was much easier than most, so it will probably yield a harsh curve and -1 would definitely not be a 36.

Ok… So for the people that are wondering when you get your scores… Most people can see them online in 2 weeks. If you registered online you have an ACT account and, all you have to do is long on to it. If you requested a mailed score report it takes anywhere from 3-8 weeks. Hope this helps…

Anyone remember all of the passages?
1 fighting scientists
2. Genes
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?
7. X ray mechanism thing

The weakened hypothesis one was a poorly worded question. I’m pretty sure it was D. The second part of the answer was stating the part of Scientist 3’s hypothesis that was proven incorrect, it wasn’t saying that the second part of the answer was true. It is the only answer choice that makes sense, because Hypothesis 1 had nothing to do with humans, and for answer C if the humans came 10,000 years before then the creatures couldn’t have died before that. It must be assumed that the second part of the answer is explaining the portion of the hypothesis that makes it incorrect.

The passages were (Not necessarily in order):

Scientists on extinction
Genes
Rain fall
Projectile-thing
X-ray

The other two were… Um…

Can’t remember as of now…

Was there one about soil composition? or something similar to that?
Gah.

By projectile thing do you mean the rail gun thing? I have no idea what the other one is though.
