Wait? What were the choices again?

What was the answer to the question in the prose fiction passage that was “when did the speaker realize that he wasn’t really the old man’s friend?” I was deciding between when the old guy moved out of his apartment and when he moved into the new apartment

I think the question was which event he was unsure about. It said in the passage that the answer was when the old man moved in, since the narrator moved in sometime afterward.

I hated that first question about string theory. It was way too ambiguous and there was no clear-cut answer. That being said, I picked “entrenched” because it had the best reasoning. I had it narrowed down to entrenched, prominent, and controversial. I eliminated “controversial” because that answer choice said “because it is accepted by the scientific elite but rejected by basic scientists” which is wrong. I ultimately went with “entrenched” because the “prominent” answer choice said “because it is one of several popular theories among the scientific community” which it isn’t. The passage made no mention of other theories, so there was no evidence for string theory being “one of several popular theories.” The entrenched answer choice, as far as I can remember, said “entrenched to the point that string theory scientists refuse to consider other theories at all.” I clearly remember putting that because the last sentence of the passage said “string theory scientists have become ____ (forgot the word here), if not completely ossified in their thinking.” Ossified means turned to bone; in this context, it would mean that the scientists have so completely accepted string theory that they have accepted it as fact and won’t consider any other competing theories.

I agree with thelemonisinplay. I put entrenched because of the way the author described it being the dominant theory and how everyone accepted it, despite the flaws that the one scientist from Cambridge pointed out.

wait for the question on the string theory passage that asked about weather the author was a relativity unknown truth teller who was willing to challenge scientists or a humble man who did not know he book would cause so much trouble, what did you all put? i think it was the second or third question, but I cant remember the exact wording!

I put that he was a relatively unknown truth-teller willing to challenge scientists.

good so did I!

What did you guys put for the question from the banana passage that was something like “the passage suggests that huge amounts of pesticides are used on bananas despite the fact that ____” and the choices were “that most bananas come from a a single strand (or something like that)” or “that forests are being razed.”

I don’t remember the other answers but I couldn’t decide betweent those two and put that they came from a single strand.

@kommatmebro

…despite the fact that overuse of the pesticide reduced its effectiveness.

I think “entrenched to the point that string theory scientists refuse to consider other theories at all” is wrong since the writer of the book had many “elite physicists and mathematicians” on his side that discredited the sting theory and believed in something else. That is why I chose prominent…lame question!

@kommatmebro Agreed with LikeASir - the passage explicitly stated that pesticides were being overused even though that would only reduce their effectiveness.

@Btaylor It’s true that prominent was a plausible answer choice, but did you look at the second half of that answer? The reasoning didn’t exactly match up, because it said that string theory was one of several popular theories. Where in the passage did you see other theories being discussed? This really was a terrible question. I hope they realize that.

That’s the only reason I didn’t choose “Prominent.” The rest of the answer wasn’t true (there were no mentions to other theories other than the Standard Model, and the answer choice had “several” in it).

What you guys for some of the answers for the first passage

No that one was something about harming humans, right???

@alexmass I think there was a different question where the answer was something about harming humans being a side effect of pesticides

oh for that question I put forests are razed because that is what it said pesticides due to forests…couldn’t that have been right?

noo it was definitely humans since it said it “endangered human health”

I agree with actsat2400. The answer was endangered human health.
