Just wondering if anyone here is from canada – still haven’t got my results and I’m freaking out!!

My scores still aren’t posted yet… asdfghjkl.

And I’m in the U.S., and I’m almost positive everything was filled out correctly on my forms…

^ will probably go up on Wed.

Yes, looking on this thread has made me think my son didn’t score very high. He is not looking at Ivy League but some pharmacy programs are looking for higher ACT scores than just average. One school requires a 29 so hopefully that is doable. He might also be able to get some scholarship money if he can bring his score up to a 32. I have learned a lot here and maybe he’ll listen to some of it.

Composite: 35
English: 35
English/Writing: 33 (10 essay)
Math: 34
Reading: 36
Science: 36

wooooooooooooot!!!
I have no freaking idea how this happened but I honestly dont care

I completely agree with ferzouki. I was about to write something similar before I saw his post. A 28 is definitely NOT average. Ferzouki’s right – the national average is around 21 or 22. A 28 is very good.

My kids and I learn a whole lot from CC and I am thankful for the forums here. However, it is true that this crowd is, on average, very high achieving and often single-minded about top tier colleges and ivies. The “population” here is not at all representative of our country’s population as a whole. There are a lot of people who don’t even want to go to ivies or huge top tier schools, my kids included. But people here on CC would have you believe that everybody aspires to go to those schools. Not true.

To me, it’s most important to choose a school for “fit,” not status, and the ivies and top tiers are not the best fit for the majority of people, imo. Not because they’re “too” elite; not because their academics might be too hard; not because of anything else associated with “prestige” – but simply because no school out there automatically fits every kid’s personality, even the top tiers and ivy leagues – and even if the kid has the stats to match.

There are tons of great schools out there. A 28, or similar score, would be considered very good at a lot of them. It would be considered excellent at some.

When reading CC, I try to remind myself that the most important thing is where my kids will be happiest – it’s what THEY want, not what society tells them they should want. So, yeah, shrug off that CC pressure! That’s what we do in my house.

@nuclearpirate99,
hmmm…
yes, my son got 18 subscores in both areas for his 36 in English. I’m not sure why you got a 35 for two 18’s.

By the way, I saw other posts in which people said they missed one or missed two, or what have you. How do they know? Does a 17 subscore mean you’ve missed 1? Does a 16 subscore mean you’ve missed 2? We don’t know how to tell!

I had 18 subscores for both too, and a 35 total. :(

^^^ hmmmm.

^ its quite simple. a -1 in one sub section was still an 18 whereas a -1 in the other was a 17. A -1 overal was a 35. I got a 17/18 and I 35. It just depends which category the question was that u missed.

nicely summed up by olleger. I guess I should be happy with my 35 but I missed 36 by one point so I’m really angry.

I missed a 35 again by 1 pt. = //// lol I know how u feel

Sophomore ACT (freaking happy as anything)
32 English
35 Math
34 Reading
36 Science
11 Essay
Comp: 34.25!!!

Junior ACT (bummed out)
35 English
36 Math
33 Reading
33 Science
11 Essay
Comp: 34.25 AGAIN!!!

I’ll get my 35+ during the manditory ACT in April ; ). If I get the same EXACT comp again… wow positive thoughts lol. It would drive me crazy.

Looks like everyone’s scores in my school were delayed.
And no one’s happy. =P Must have been a test center irregularity or crazy weather.

Son improved from 25 to 30. Last time he took the ACT was in April last year as sophmore…

34 English (on par with expectations)
28 Math (thought he did better, looking for 32)
30 Reading (one of the arts/Lit passages got him…ahh! he aced the arts/lit passages last year… )
28 Science (don’t know what happened…looking for a 32)

Composite: 30
He was looking for a minimum 32 (opens doors to a lot of scholarships) as he was acing the practice tests consistently (34-36). I think that he got too anxious and lost his mojo after the English.

Anyway he will take the test again in April to keep up with his momentum. Will work with stamina.

One last note, we kind of followed the Xiggi method to study and the approach really works! Will recommend you read it and try it, is not magic but get you a good disciplined process to study and prepare.

Good luck everybody!

So is Xiggi for SAT and ACT? I had only seen it referenced to SAT before. My son has decided to only focus on the ACT.

Pardon the ignorance, but can someone tell me what xiggi is?

“So is Xiggi for SAT and ACT?”

ditto: the same question; have never seen a Xiggi method for ACT

rom: go to the search function and type in Xiggi method (a poster whose SAT study method is legendary)

Thanks Rodney - I found it!

All references that we got were about SAT, and Xiggi will tell you that he has have not try it. We gave it a shot for ACT preparation because the fundamentals are the same and it works!!! My son really like it because its not about trying to do everything at once has you can measure your progress as you go without burning your self up.
The only part that we failed was to build more stamina and move to take two sections of the ACT in one sit. The part of slowly building confidence and time management worked really good.

To my complete shock, I got a 35 on the February ACTs. I had a 35 in English, 36 in Math, 36 in Reading, and 32 in Science. I’m still waiting for my essay score to come in, but I don’t think I got above a 10 on that.
I need some advice, though. In January, I took the SATs and got a 1450/2150 (650 CR, 800 M, 700 W), which is not bad at all. Although I got that beautiful perfect score in math, I’m taking the SATs again in March to improve my CR, and I’m aiming for 700+. Obviously, my ACT scores are a heck of a lot better - they correspond to a 1560 according to the ACT website. However, I’m not sure whether I should submit both the SAT and ACT scores to colleges that require either/or. Even if I get a 700+ in CR on the next SAT, I doubt I’ll get a 1530+ combined, which makes my ACT scores better. Should I just submit my ACT scores? Or should I try to show some success in both tests?
