Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Staten Island, New York City
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: Female
[] major strength/weakness: Went to Tufts Telescope program, showed a lot of interest, okay stats, showed interest in cultures/languages/diversity, am multilingual (English, Cantonese, Russian)
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: I also think I was accepted because I visited and showed a lot of interest. Uh.. haha I also attempted to write a witty, feel-good editorial for the supplemental and stuck in a relevant quote by a Tufts graduate.
[/ul]

Other Factors:
I spoke to the Director of Admissions and the Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Dept while I was there (during the November Telescope Program) and they were really interested in my research plan... I think I'll go there to do some sideline research but attend a BA-MD program in-state (NY). But still.. YAY FOR TUFTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!!

I'd like to THANK kj for expressing exactly what was on my mind. I honestly cannot believe the degree of arrogance in this thread - there is much more to getting into a college than standardized test scores, and maybe what you name the "Tufts Syndrome" is simply a manifestation of that. Tufts is an extremely selective school, and I feel nothing but disgrace for those attributing their rejections to being "overqualified" - are you trying to say that the accepted students with SAT scores in the 1300s are second tier students? That they've only been accepted to increase yield?

I, personally, know of many strong candidates rejected by Tufts... it's definitely no safety school. I completely understand that we would need to comfort ourselves after a tough, and somewhat hard to understand, rejection, but please - don't put down the school (and it's a damn fine one) and its students along the way.

That said (for future tufts applicants):

Decision: Accepted (to college)
