Official Admission Decisions

I really think that with the UCs, your scores pretty much determine your admission decision. Why? Coz they don't want recs, transcript, etc.

Just - to add one more thing: These admissions ARE random....

wow...you just insulted everyone who has been accepted to UCLA. Congratulations.

Hey Littleol'me - thanks and don't worry; it takes more than a random comment to insult me. I actually don't think they're all that random, because the essay prompts are pretty clever, ... and I do believe they read all those answers.

me, too. I don't know how else I could have been accepted. it's just getting annoying that this is how people choose to justify their rejections. They could at least put a little more imagination into it(but maybe that was their problem to begin with...ok, that was low. I apologize.)

...

Anyone know when admission packages should come in the mail?

-Ender

ender i just got mine today but i live in southern california so it could be different for you if you live somewhere else

I am not insulting those who got in, and sorry if you guys took it that way. I am just saying that for UCs, it's a little different, because they don't require some application components such as recommendations, etc. So they are not able to look at it as a whole.

hey cool DIABLO2FAN, that means ill get it by this week (prolly tomorrow), since i live in teh BAy AREA CODE!

dude is it just me or is this site lagging.

I only live a half hour away from UCLA and nothing came for me today...

Srtange. Tomorrow then.

Tenniscraze, let me tell you something about my life: at my school, I have worked for nearly four years to earn a reputation where I actually have people who respect me, and that includes teachers. Before then, the daughter of the football coach and AP teacher could get any rec she wanted, but not me. At my school, recs mean nothing for that reason, and I'm sure UC's figured out by now that recs are just not reliable. I'm actually glad they did.

I'm the daughter of a teacher, a well respected one, but I also behave in a manner that earns respect. Not all teacher's kids are that bad, and I know that's not what you were saying. But, I still agree with you. Every kid can find a teacher that likes them enough to write a rec for them, so recs really shouldn't count for very much.

Littleol'me, I know most are for real. I just really tried to justify why the UC's don't rely on them. I was surprised myself that none were required. But then I thought about it + realized there may be good reasons for that.

agreed. + characters

I think my "hooks" were my commitments to orchestra (leadership both in performance [principal second violin] and countless fundraisers that we've done), and an actual planned goal. I want to be an English teacher, so in addition to discussing my aspirations in my personal statements, I also interned fall semester at California Department of Education, and spring semester at my old middle school.

Decision: Accepted (Out-of-State)

Is there any official response from UCLA or media commentary available on the Fall 2005 admissions decisions issue? I like reading CC but need access to something more objective and/or official, not that the media is objective. I didn't see anything in the LA Times. Is there a campus newspaper article that has addressed admissions decisions?

To those who say a 1300+ on the SAT I is a "low" score -- no, it isn't. That so isn't.

I remember telling my friend, who applied to LA because her mom made her (she didn't want to go there), "Don't apply or else you're going to give me more competition!" Really, if someone doesn't want to go to a certain school and applies there and gets in, he or she takes the spot of another qualified person who really wants to go there. It's unfortunate. Yeah. So my friend got in.

And here's my data:

status - accepted
GPA - 4.6 (W, at time of application)
SAT I - 1180
SAT II - 620, 520, 580

My strategy to get in: Apply for the School of Arts and Architecture, fill out a supplemental application, get accepted, switch majors. I probably won't do the last step, because I really did wish to get into the arts. ^_^

Congratulations to all the acceptees and good luck to everyone else!
