~Not invited for Regents @ UCLA but invited for Regents @UCB -thought I wasn't going to get accepted at UCLA!!!

hey gemini, I got a score in the low 500s for math iic. math just doesn't seem to be my thing. But history majors don't really need all that much math anyhow...

ha, too true! but I'm currently in Calc BC anyways!

ew...I dropped regular calc 2 weeks in. I'm now suffering through ap physics B...

Admission: Accepted

hell yes

and actually if you check the stats, out of staters have a lower acceptance rating because the percentage of out of staters that apply pales in comparison with in staters that apply. if the out of state admissions was 10% its because only 10% of the applicants are from out of state. check the stats, i was as surprised

Extracurriculars:
MUN (inc. numerous awards)
JSA (Director of Publicity)
National Charity League (many offices and awards)
Cheerleading (Frosh and JV, 2 championships)
NHS, CSF, Spanish Honor Society, AP Scholar, Principal's High Honor Roll, Governor's Scholar Award

Just a word of encouragement...
I'm not sure if others have noticed, but the students at my school (most of which applied to UCs- last year we had the second highest amount of students enter into the UC system from any school ever) have noticed that it is incredibly rare for students to be accepted to both UCLA and Berkeley. Many of those not accepted will likely be getting a congratulatory lettery from UCB in the next few weeks, so if you didnt get in to UCLA it may be because the UC school you fit into better is Berkeley. Just hang on and wait- u may be welcomed to Cal very soon!

Happiest day =)
Stats for those who care:
Major: Pre-Econ
29 ACT, 710 W/630 M IC/620 WH
4.2 GPA (4 APS by grad + 1 UCSD class (A))
Good ECs - personal fundraiser for hospital, volunteer, clubs
Very powerful essays (one on all the volunteer i've done with children, one on my desire to discover my place in the world through int'l studies/economics, and one of the positive impact moving to 3 different high schools has had one my life and my understanding of diversity)

=) =) =)

Decision: Accepted as Astrophysics major

Stats:

SAT: 1330 ACT: 33

SAT IIs: 690 Writing, 720 MathIIc, 670 US History, 630 Physics (didn't study, hadn't taken it for a year)

GPA: about 4.26 weighted...that's all i know at the moment.

Rank: 21/690

Subjective:

Essays: Really good

Hook (if any): Severe, life-threatening personal problems during junior year, which led to me missing a huge portion of the school year, and also lowered my grades quite significantly.

Location/Person:

State or Country: CA

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: Hispanic/White

Gender: Female

major strength/weakness: Weaknesses are low SAT I and IIs, low gpa. Strengths are having overcome much difficulty, and ec's. EC's are music (4 different instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, trombone...in 5 different bands), science (Science Olympiad, attended the Summer Science Program in Socorro, NM for 6 weeks to calculate the orbit of asteroid (306) Unitas...results archived in the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), and CSF, G.A.T.E. club...can't remember others.

why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Essays for sure...EC's...also had a combination of academics/social stuff (i.e. homecoming royalty). I don't really know, though.

Not sure if I'll accept the offer of admission, as I'm waiting for other schools still...but I'm definitely happy with this!

dear mobstermobi - I think it might be better if I not reply to your post, but just so you know, my friend (two of them now - yay!) and I are all in your situation - citz abroad applying back. Thus I think our opportunities have all been about the same. I can also say that none of us ever snatched up positions (or what it was that you were talking about) indiscriminately.

Please note that I never said you deserved to be rejected - I meant quite the opposite, really, but seriously UCLA is getting pretty nuts to get into; don't feel down or anything. The only reason I wasn't more sensitive to the way you must be feeling now is because bits of your posts irked me. Sorry about that. Again, don't worry about it. A rejection means nothign and I'm sure you'll go somewhere awesome with your very commendable achievements.
