we can know officially because we were told to circle our answers in the test phamplet and bubble on answer sheet. then we could take home the test phamplet with our circled answers and an answer sheet and find our score

My teacher had the answer sheets sitting out on the desk while we were taking the test today. It was sort of funny. Our schools not very good though at these tests.

We got the answers right after we took the test. I got a 115. It was my first AMC, so I'm pretty happy - plus, I did better than all my friends since they answered too many questions. I just wanted to qualify, so I answered #1-16 except for 12 cause I wasn't sure, and left the other 10 blank. I got all 15 right.

Dang it, I knew I should have made this post yesterday.

The AMC director has requested that you not discuss the AMC tests until SATURDAY. The AMC-10/12 teachers' manual states that you MAY NOT discuss the tests with anyone outside your school until the day after the test. And at the second link below, Mr. Dunbar asked that you extend this until Saturday "because of international participation and delays in mailing".

Teacher's Manual page: http://www.unl.edu/amc/d-publication/d1-pubarchive/2005-6pub/2006AMC1012/html/06tm-04-text.html

And Mr. Dunbar's request: http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=72555

what are the consequences out of curiosity? mr. dunbar is such a nerd btw

if someone does well on the AMC and takes the AIMEE what does that mean? can you get scholarship money or anything? or just recognitiion of puttin gon ur college app "qualified for AiMEE" and does qualifying for the AIMEE actually mean that much. for example: is qualifying for the AIMEE considered less presitgous than say getting national merit semi?

logisticswizard: I doubt the consequences will go any further than a rebuke from AMC. If a large number of answers had been posted during the period when a lot of schools were giving tests (so that there was a grave threat to the integrity of the test), then it could go further.

Spongebobspongebob: If you qualify for the AIME, you get several things:
1. The satisfaction of doing well on the AMC.
2. A great deal of new math learned, and general increase in intelligence due to preparation for the tests.
3. The opportunity to take the AIME, which is one of the most fun math competitions around, IMHO.
4. A shot at qualifying for the USAMO, which is another one of the most fun competitions, IMHO.
5. Yes, you can put it on your apps. I have no idea how much it will actually help you, but you shouldn't care about that; the first four things outweigh this one by a lot.

thanks sly si, but honestly if all i cared about was putting it on my college apps then i wouldnt be on the math team taking math tests every week and spending my saturday mornings at math competitions...i am in fact one of those extreme nerds who might kind of like enjoy ever so slightly solving wickedly cool math problems....if i freak anyone out by actually admitting this in text then ignore me....i was just wondering if i could potentially get any type of scholarship money for it similar to the NSMQT

i <3 math nerds

spongebobspongebob, if you make it to USAMO through AIME,and provided that you have solid stats in other areas, you will tremondously increase your chance of getting into the top universities, such as HPYMS

Sorry, spongebob, I didn't mean to sound nasty or anything. You didn't mention that you did other stuff with the math team.

answered first 16 questions and a random one (20?), i missed one i think.

i got a 118.5... i attempted 18, got one wrong, which was really lame. for some reason i did sine instead of cosine in my head and it messed up my answer, but everything leading up to that was just fine. that's wat careless errors will do for you!

but yeah i agree with everyone else, 1 thru 16 were surprisingly simple. everything after that, au contraire, was pretty much on par with normal AMC12 difficulty. it really felt like a new, harder section started with number 17. i got 18 and 20 right, which were the easiest two of 17 thru 25, IMHO.

the main reason why the Dunbar Dude doesn't want us chitter chattering about this is that - actually - quite a few people haven't taken it yet. And yes, i mean the 12A version that we all took 1/31. i really don't care, but the people who made this possible probably would
appreciate it if we kept it fair. people in other countries haven't taken it yet.

For those of you guys who have taken the AIME, how is it? i should establish now that i'm not that great at number theory... and from what i understand, the AIME mostly is just that. I went on wikipedia and checked out the AIME and the avg score from last year was less than 3 problems right out of 15.

sounds pretty easy, if you ask me.

I answered questions 1 through 15 correctly. I can't believe that I didn't answer number 16 correctly. I'm still happy about my score though.

Hi guys,

What's the difference between the AMC 10 and the AMC 12?

Also, when do results come out?

My kids were supposed to take the AMC10/12 yesterday. When they came home they said the teacher called in sick and the test was 'cancelled'. Shouldn't there be a make up day, or are they just out of luck now? Anybody know?

freshmans&sophomores can take AMC10 & AMC12, but juniors&seniors can only take AMC12. AMC10 is supposedly harder with higher math concepts involved than AMC12, but AMC12 is actually easier to qualify for the AIME than AMC10.

dontpanic... i wouldn't worry about it. they'll still be able to take suring a make up day, for sure. If that isn't possible for some reason, there is a second test date in mid-February, the 10/12 B. we're all chatting about the 12A because that's the first one of this years batch.

cooljoe, i'm wondering the same thing. i overheard some people at my school say it's a few weeks usually, but hopefully that was hype. otherwise that would be reaaally lame. i want to know what i got asap.... and what others got too! =)

and DontPacnic1 - from what I know, there will be another AMC10/12(B) pretty soon... probably sometime in February? not sure of the date...

When do results come out?
