As of late, the administration has taken a proactive stance on restricting alcohol consumption. This should not be a problem for people of age (like myself), but it has led to the campus police seeking out and shutting down parties quite quickly. It’s like a game of Whac-A-Mole as students go from party to party only to have them repeatedly shutdown. So regardless of one’s age, it is difficult to have any large gatherings.
Last fall, a new rule was implemented banning alcohol from common areas. This means that everyone must now drink in their rooms. I find this problematic because there is much less oversight of other students which may result in unsafe drinking with no one around to notify emergency services. Another potential problem is sexual assault, as again, no one is there to witness anything.
That said, most parties occur at the “socials” (dorms with suite style living). These tend to be overcrowded, and often smell of vomit. I can’t understand why people go, but maybe I’m just too uptight. I usually just go into town and barhop my fellow transfers (we tend to be older).</p>
