Who out there is applying to Amherst RD? And for those were were deferred from Amherst ED, how do you plan on boosting your chances for RD? I was deferred from Brown ED and I was initially really upset but now I have decided to focus on RD and create a great Amherst application!

So anyone have any other thoughts/questions/worries, etc?

I'm totally applying to Amherst regular! I got deferred from Stanford, but I love most of my colleges about equally, and I feel confident I'll get into at least one of them (out of 7), so I'm ok... I have more awards to add to my list now, plus my Amherst essay is going to be really good : )

yeah i think i would really like Amherst and i think it has the Open Curriculum (just like Brown)! I'm going to try and make my essay really good but i haven't started it yet, lol!

I'm applying regular to Amherst (and Williams, too. Ack =p).

The level of competition among all the early pools has been disturbingly high, which makes me somewhat edgy because many qualified applicants have not been accepted, but at the same time I think that the regular decision pool should not be as competitive, so I'm a bit more relaxed. Everything should be mailed out soon, and then we'll know in April. I'm excited.

Yeah, the early decision pool seemed really really competitive this year - i wonder why? Hopefully it'll be a big better RD but i guess we'll have to wait and see :D

Devorzhum, i'm applying to Williams too (lol). I actually wasn't planning to but then i found out that they don't require a supplemental essay :D That really helped me make up my mind about applying, hahaha. Somehow i think amherst is more me though - the open curriculum is great!

Yup. I'm applying regular decision too. Basically, I'm anxious to get my application in (which should be tomorrow), have my guidance counselor send my stuff and be DONE. I don't like being in limbo, too, and the wait for April will be tough. Anyway, good luck to everyone! I hope we all make it!

A lot of people (including me last year) apply to both Amherst and Williams. But if you're accepted to both, feel free to to choose the school (Amherst) that you feel is the best (Amherst) fit for you personally (Amherst). As long as it's not Williams.

As for choosing, I really can't decide. I love both of them, and I know that I'd be happy at both of them. It almost makes me wish I got into one and not the other so I wouldn't have to choose (but I really don't mean that =p).

Oh, and you know how we're supposed to respond to one of the quotes for the Amherst essay? Well, is it meant to be more of an analysis of the concepts presented in the quotes, or are the quotes meant to trigger some kind of personal reflection on an important event/person in our lives?

Thanks for the help! I can't believe I haven't started it yet...
