Official Amherst Regular Decision Thread

Amherst is need blind (except for internationals, although becoming so is a priority), so not asking for financial aid won't boost your chances

....but if they aren't need blind for internationals then wouldn't it boost my chances, as I am an international?

I was wondering the same. I imagine it can't hurt if you're an international, but Amherst (or any school) probably has a quota of int. students it can admit. These are just my cogitations; I'm from the suburbs of Boston.

If you are an international, then yes it would help if you don't apply for financial aid. I'm not sure if "boost your chances" is the right phrase, though. "Not drop your chances" might be more accurate. If they don't believe you are sufficiently qualified, they aren't going to accept you just because you don't need aid.

haha yeah of course. I'm sure the ridiculous competitiveness of the international pool cancels out any minor advantage gained by internationals not needing aid.

how are everyone's essays going? Lol do you think it will hurt me if I turn in my app on Dec 31 or Jan 1?

I'd go with the 31... I just sent mine in last night!

We have to post the supplement application separately to the college right?
Or can we do it online?

Another question, since I dont have a credit card, can I send the check separately after completing the application online?

With Amherst if you send the common app in online then you have to send in the supplement online. All in one institution.

As for the credit card question, I am sure that they would take a check, but call just to make sure.
