Official Amherst Regular Decision Thread

I can't wait to learn French. I've considered trying out Rosetta Stone to get a head start. My friend has been doing that with Portuguese, and he's gotten very good. Of course, he's also dating a Portuguese girl, and according to him, languages are learned best in bed. I'm not sure what to make of that =p

lol me neither...

yeah, i guess... but then we still have all of february and march, which are two of the most depressing months weather-wise :( Oh well, at least there's february vacation :)

February vacation? Not where I live =p

And the weather's been getting better. The next two months should pass quickly. I've engineered my second semester schedule so that I get to leave at noon three days per week to work on my senior project. =)

I envy anyone who has February break. However, I do pretty much have a week off right now for NY state Regents week.

You lucky duck, devorzhum. I'd manage it the other way, though, and let myself sleep in :-P I'm just excited about having my first study hall since 9th grade.

April seems so far away, though.

You have a "Regents week"? We just take them in the midterms or finals week.

If you think that your second semester seems to be going really slowly, remember that at Amherst second semester doesn't even start until a week from tomorrow.

Phedre, our regents week is the same thing as our midterms/finals week, we get off from classes and call it "Regents Week" and the administration gets really anal about kids in the hallways.

yeah but they have intersession, which is supposed to be great.

Wait, finals week is considered off from classes?? That's not exactly a vacation.

What is Regents week? Lol i didn't know nobody else had february break! We have a whole week off :) We also have April break, but you guys have that too, right? Yeah, I guess time will start passing a bit faster once second semester begins and the weather improves!

piratemonkey, Regents are New York State mandated exams. I don't know if private school kids need to take them, but everyone else in New York is required to pass a certain number to graduate. They're taken as finals or midterms, and JPan explained that just meant finals or midterms week

Anyway, I have a week off in February too. I think it just varies from school to school, no matter where you are.

Yeah, MA public schools get Feb and April break. I went to private school thus got a long Christmas and March break, but I think Dec./Feb./Apr. is a pretty common combination.
