Official Amherst Regular Decision Thread

That is a very interesting and nerve-wrecking link.
12% acceptance rate? Come on... And it's even lower for intels.
Well, we'll see how it goes in two months.

Can we post about something that's not admissions? We were doing fine before... anyone a soccer fan?

daniel - I'm sorry to disturb the flow. Should have put it in a new thread, but didn't want to over-emphasize it. My apologies :(

Haha it's ok. We're always thinking about admissions anyway, even if we deny it. Thanks for the article.

Wow, that's amazing, considering the admit rate was 19% last year. And if they're going to review about 600 more applicants than Williams and still have a smaller class size, I suppose Amherst will be the school with the lower admit rate this year. Oooh, scandalous. =p

^ exactly. Who really knows how admissions will handle it? I guess there's no point in getting too worried... Glad I'm the only one applying from my school, though...

Not at all rainmama, thanks for the link :D. And Kristina's right, it's impossible not to discuss admissions.

Admissions, admissions and admissions. What else can we think about?
Soccer, or football as we love to call it here, is the game of the gods.:D

froghorn, does that actually have an effect on admissions? Or do you just mean in terms of getting an Early Write?

Well, both, though I don't expect an EW. I am not competing against anyone from my school which is good because AC wants each class to represent as many high schools as possible.

Oh. Hmmm I have no idea if anyone else at my school applied. Probably a handful did. Maybe.

Some from my school did. However, no Nepali has been admitted into Amherst for the last 8 years. So, I'd bring some diversity there:D

How do you know that? I'd like to know if Amherst has admitted Hondurans.

Actually, on the Amherst 2012 facebook, there is a guy from Nepal....

He's a US citizen living in Nepal.

He holds a nepali citizenship too. And has lived in Nepal for the last 15 years. And I am sure there's another one Nepalese at Amherst.

I was blissfully unaware of all this. My hopes of an Amherst admissions has just been dashed.:(

Haha. I'm sure you have more going for you than your nationality. And besides, even 1 or 2 other Nepalese students still means they're pretty rare, so that might still make you attractive to them for that reason.

As hard as this is, and as bad as I am at taking my own advice, I would try not to worry about how many Nepalese (or any nationality) applied. It, like the rest of the process (at this pt.) is beyond your control.

^^ LOL I was just joking. I am one of those who do not care about how many fellow countrymen applied, though that is not really apparent from my posts.:)

Yeah thats the spirit, who gives a damn about who applied where.

And skunk, I have news. Amherst's dean of admissions had visited Nepal for the first time in December. I believe she went back in January. If she liked this place, your chances are really high. And even if she didn't like this place, your chances are pretty high all the same, considerig your near perfect SATs.
