**Official AP BIO 2012 Thread**

Transferred this year to a new school, and my class is only on cellular respiration and photosynthesis…=_= We’ve done mitosis, but have yet to reach meiosis.
Getting seriously worried–my teacher believes in the whole “No homework over weekends or breaks” deal, and we’ve spent more time talking about his life than we have about biology. We’ve done 3-ish labs, and only truly completed 1.
When he actually lectures, he uses the Campbell powerpoints and basically just reads off of them.

I checked my old school’s Bio calendar and they’re already on Chapter 26…

Does anyone have some self study tips / where I should be right now? I’ve had no other Bio background because I took AP Chem last year. I was thinking of some serious reading ahead over winter break.

We’re using the Campbell 8th Edition AP Textbook, and we have to self-read each chapter and do the Holtzclaw study guides. I find reading the textbook rather dense and boring, but when I read my Barron’s Prep Book, I find it’s not in-depth enough for the individual chapter tests.

Thanks a lot in advance~

Well, we’re nearly there as well. We’re doing evolution unit scattered, a little of speciation, etc… We plan to finish evolution unit before next week (which is when the Winter break commences). You’re a bit behind, @Ikirunda, yes, but it’s no worries. You have your break, in your break, do the genetics unit, perfectly possible!

Hey guys, I am reviewing for my final exam and I was wondering how hard the AP Bio exam is because many people in my school say it’s the hardest! I really need a 5 because the college I am probably going to only accepts 5s for credit.

I plan to study a lot, but I just need some ideas.

@Ikirunda, like EddieAP said, you should take advantage of your winter break.

I think my teacher is going too fast, we are on ch. 39/40. He says he tries to only tell us what is actually important vs. a lot of useless knowledge that won’t be on the AP.

We took our final exam over 2 days. We are on a 4 class per day, 90 minutes per class schedule so we took 105 MC questions in 90 minutes yesterday, and 4 FRQ’s the day before in 90 minutes. The essays were all past AP FRQ’s and I only missed one point on them!! I only got like 86 MC right though. I know thats pretty good, but Im not sure if my MC score will give me a 5. Do you guys have any tips for the MC?

I am buying the Clifnotes AP Bio book this weekend off of Amazon, but I just need some tips on answering the MC. Thank you so much in advance.

do you think we could self study starting now?

Why haven’t you been self studying since the beginning of the year?

@monarchry - What’s going to make the difference between the 4 and the 5 on this test is 1. Can you make the connections. If you can tie in evolution in a prompt of bacteria or viruses, that’s great. Stuff like this is really something they like. 2. I wouldn’t skip over the “useless knowledge that won’t be in the AP,” because although they may not provide YOU with it, you can provide THEM with it.

LOL aldfig0, procrastingation :(

Winter break should be starting soon/already started for most schools. If you haven’t started, now is a good time to start. There is a lot of material; you can’t expect to skim over a textbook and pass.

I’m technically in a class but I will have to self-study for sure, we’re only on Cellular Respiration in Campbell. So, Campbell + Khan Academy will be my lifeline for a 5.

P.S. khanacademy.org is awesome. Khan does a much better job of explaining cellular respiration than my teacher or book.

I think I’ll review taxonomy and anatomy unit this break.

Does anybody have an idea about the FR’s might be about this year?

Also, does anyone know the breakdown of each score on the exam? (Eg:5,4)

I just started chapter 40 but am studying for the Biology Olympiad more than for AP biology

Bio midterm after winter break

Haven’t started studying

23 chapters on the test

yay

Does anyone have FRQ tips? I don’t mean to sound pretentious, but I think the only thing standing between me and a 5 is my writing.

Where do your teachers get questions for your tests? My teacher sometimes pulls the most ridiculous questions out of nowhere.

@dukieboy: Having taken the test and getting a four, you need to put a ton of terms into your writing. Be ultraspecific and you should be ok. Also, make sure you know the labs. Last year was the water potential lab question so it won’t be that one. Good luck!

Shaggy007, my teacher

 1. Got them from the internet
 2. From some book
 3. Made them up himself
 4. Had the students make up questions
