*** Official AP Biology Thread 2012-2013 ***

^ We have biochemistry and evolution done also. We’re on the cell membrane, chapter 7 of the Campbell’s 8th Edition.

We just finished DNA and RNA and we have a test on it this Tuesday.

Anyone interested to help create AP Bio content which will reach thousands of students? PM me if interested!

We’ve finished the evolution, biochem, and cells units. Right now, we’re doing photosynthesis/cellular respiration.

I don’t think you guys are in too terrible shape - you guys are around the same spot as me.

We have finished Chapters 3 through 10, and 51 through 55. We have completed six of our eight labs (we might do a couple extra if we have time).

@Rob1995 6 labs already! We’ve only done 4 of the major labs (out of 12).

Our textbook has like 50 chapters but apparently the new test allows us to skip 20.

We’ve done 1-14 in class but we’ve read up to 24.

self-studying AP Bio here  How hard is it for you all? I’ve barely taken a look at my Campbell, and I think I should start getting concerned o__0

Haha, it’s pretty difficult for me. Or maybe because I slack on the assignments xD
Yeah, Campbell’s pretty long… XD

@MathGuy: Just cracked it open last night and was like 55 chapters whaaatt. Haha, but do you know if all chapters are relevant to the exam? ^_^

You are going to see a 1 or a 2 as your score if you don’t step up now. Look at the syllabus on the College Board’s website.

D: Gah /dies/ I went through 3 chapters today o.0 I guess I know some stuff from doing research…but definitely not enough details haha.

Advice well taken, thank you!

Sorry if I sounded a little too harsh. But AP Biology is not that easy to self study and you have a ton of reading to do. Many actual classes don’t cover all the material needed even though they start at the beginning of the school year. The new curriculum should result in less of a need for memorization but it’s still not easy.

Mm okay. Yeah, no, any harshness is welcome to prompt me to start working dangit  But yep, our school AP Bio class is slow. Christmas break = study time! X_x

Hello fellow bio students!

I am self-studying for AP Bio this year, so I was wondering if anyone would want to start a study group on either AIM or Facebook. The group would be really nice for people that need other people to motivate them, and we could quiz each other on the mass of information of biology

Anyway, just a thought, and this thread is kind of a study group already, but it would be even more awesome to have a group devoted to quizzing each other and studying. I posted a separate thread about this also, so if anyone wants to join or at least think about it, you can either leave a comment below, PM me, or leave a comment on the other thread  it would mean a lot if we could get everyone together to prepare for the exam and also the new changes to the exam!

@BigIs: You are a lifesaver gah I think you saved me tearing out more of my hair

@MITobsession: All for it!

@MTobsession I’m for it too! Our teacher seems completely lost in the new curriculum and is driving me up the wall, lol.

Question to all: Have you taken an intro/regular-level bio course before taking AP Bio?

My only exposure to biology before AP Bio was 7th grade life science. Needless to say, I don’t remember most of that. I did take AP Chem. last year though, and I feel it’s been a significant help thus far.
