*** Official AP Biology Thread 2012-2013 ***

@IceQube

Thanks, you’re the best. You really jogged up my memory. I remember getting a 94 on the Biochemistry test in Hon. Bio.

This might be a stupid question but …
when may comes around and im doing all this study stuff for ap exam should i take the SAT 2 for bio ?
i wanna major in biology ( or something that relates to animals, but not veteranian) and so that would look good if i take it
but honestly im to lazy to study for an extra test … should just i just suck it up and take both anyways ?

@Twiggy22: you should take the SAT II Bio exam; it isn’t that much different from the AP exam in terms of content. Well, compared to the old AP bio exam.

I plan on taking the SAT II Biology E/M test after the AP exam so I’ll still have the topics fresh in my head.

Woah, there’s already a thread for this. Seems like I’m late to the party.

No summer work here. I plan on watching some kahn academy videos, not sure how useful they are but I find him interesting so I’ll give them a try.

[Khan Academy](<a href=“Khan Academy | Free Online Courses, Lessons & Practice”>Khan Academy | Free Online Courses, Lessons & Practice)

IceQube, I can’t believe you’re reading MCAT level books as a rising senior, that’s intense.

^ My school isn’t allowed to give summer work anymore, you have to ask for it, like I did for AP Chem.

Anyone know what the hardest unit is? I have a feeling I’d wanna review that a little bit before diving in so that by the time the actual unit comes around, I won’t be hopelessly behind and confused. >_<

Just review the stuff in the beginning - or the properties of water and macromolecules. I’ve already posted the stuff you need to know above. Many people get tripped up in the beginning and then struggle to catch up.

Since the Ap bio curriculm is getting changed is the SAT for bio getting changed also … cause to take Ap bio than have to learn a little more stuff for the Sat bio would suck lol

Not to be soo filled with questions and what not lol

The SAT II Bio exam isn’t changing anytime soon. The Vice President of the College Board said that himself.

Hi! :slight_smile: I’m Katie and a I’m a rising senior.

We also have to read “Survival of the Sickest”. Well, there was a choice between like, 11 books. “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”, “The Origin of Species”, “The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat”, and a few others were on there. (One was like, Dr. Tatianna’s Sex Guide or something like that) But we had to relate the book to a quote about evolution, and survival of the sickest seemed the easiest book to do that with.

That’s cool, we didn’t have to read any books in Hon. Biology.

We just got a couple pages of questions to answer and an optional “book report” to do.
=/
Doesn’t seem too stressful, haha.

@Katie

We have to read that too!!! It’s actually pretty interesting; I was surprised.

Guys as far as the review book goes, would this be it?

[Amazon.com: Cracking the AP Biology Exam, 2013 Edition (College Test Preparation) (9780307945082): Princeton Review: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Biology-Edition-College-Preparation/dp/0307945081)

I’m probably going to get that once it releases. I’ve heard Cliffs is the best for AP Bio but I don’t know if they are going to make a Cliffs 4th Edition which is specialized for the new format

Ohkay so for my AP Biology class this year, our teacher just had us review the concepts covered on the AP tests by watching the lectures on MIT Open Courseware and have us do note-taking/analysis. However, because I love biology and wish to score a 5 really bad, I feel as if this is not enough. Outside of review books, does anyone suggest some really good reads that goes beyond the core curriculum while still covering the basics?

Gah. My AP Bio teacher gave so much summer homework. Reading guides for the first five chapters and a handwritten lab report on a topic of our choice (in the biology field). Oh and a test on the reading guides within the first two weeks of school. I haven’t even started the homework yet save for a page of the first reading guide. Ah the old procrastination habits. He’s an arsehole of a teacher with an anal personality. He’s a square >.<

Our AP Biology summer project is to make a detailed brochure containing all the major systems in the human body and to make a working model of the system assigned to us. (Mine is the excretory system)
